Ok first off I'm new to nopistons and second I have a question about putting a 2nd gen engine into my 82 RX7. I have been researching this for some time though I've only had the car for about 6 months. I would have even concidered the swap but the poor thing was mistreated so badly by the owner. So what exactly do I need to get the engine in there I have read I need my 12A front cover and I can get an engine mount from racing beat is this truely all thats needed besides modding the tranny mount any help on this would be simply fantastic. thanks alot

i think the only 12a front cover u can use is the 84-85, or the 84-85 13b

jdm12a 01-18-2007 10:09 PM

u need the front engine mount adapter too and a gsl-se oil pan. ill sell u the motor mount and oil pan if u want, brand new never used mazdatrix or racingbeat i cant remember where i orederd it from, om me if ur interested and ill find out for u

would anyone happen to know of clearance issues with the turbine on an S5 or S4 engine?

z-beater 01-19-2007 08:58 AM

There are no clearance issuses on the turbine. I have a rew motor in my car with a large single and it still fits.

There are a few major things that you are forgetting though. IMO getting the engine in there is not the big deal it is getting everything to function together. You will need a new driveshaft, wiring harness & OC(if you still have the bee-hive). I would also reccomend a boost gauge and Wideband if you are not running a stock setup.

Getting the engine bolted in is the cheap part. It is all the other stuff that will nickel and dime you...

If you need any other help let me know, I try to get on as frequently as possible, but sometimes my schedule does not permit me to.

That being said there are a few other people from the NW that might see this and help you out as well... they are all great assets.

right on thanks a bunch dude. i figured the pain in the arse would be the wiring not to worried about it though. i was planning just to run it with a stock set up im gettin a pretty good deal on the engine with all accesories the tranny uncut wiring and stock ecu. and for kicks how did you get the REW in there?

I don't know if the same is true with a 13b-T, but with my 13b Cosmo, I had to use the 12a oil pickup as well.

I did the same.

Now for the age old question... Are you seriously considering this? Plan to spend around 3-4k min on a stock setup...

The REW swap is not too much different from the 13bt. There are a few things that are slightly different. But for the most part the parts are interchangeable. If I had to re-do it I would probably run with a cosmo... there are a few things that make is more simple.

I did the same.

Yeah I plan on doing the swap I had anticipated that this would cost me about 5-6k. Just trying to get as much info as possible before I pull the trigger and start getting the major componets.

A great place to look is on a sticky at the top... it is Dysfnctnl85's thread. When you have questions feel free to ask...

It might be a good place to start, but not a great place to finish just yet https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.gif. I'm finally healthy again so the ball will be rolling again https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif.

Feel free to post questions in my thread -- I will do my best to answer any that might come up and I'm sure z-beater has a ton of good advice as well.

z-beater 01-24-2007 07:07 PM

Anytime... that is why I love this site in comparrison to the one we need not mention. The people here are more than willing to help. I did a few months of research before starting my swap. Reading gives you a good feel about the process however there are a lot of small little details that are commonly overlooked.

If you have a question ask... that is what this site is for. Not some lame show off show like the other place...
