can the limited slip differential from the 1985 rx-7 be bolted into a second generation car, or are they totally different animals?

vosko 01-13-2003 05:39 PM

why did you post this in gen d ?

the answer is NO. it is 100% different

the actual differential carrier is interchangeable from 84-91 and 94-02 miata. you cannot swap the whole differential/grears/housing from fc to fb though

Dear guys, sorry for putting that in the general discussion, I was unsure of what catagory it belonged in. The reason for the question is that I already possess both a gxl and the rear end from a gsl-se- in fact I'm getting more rx-7 cars and parts than I have places to put them. I realise the solid rear axle will not swap, or be even desireable in a second gen car, but if the actual limited slip could be utilized it could save me some cash. Is it compatable

Read what mike said.

so the answer is yes the center section is interchangable.

Question:

-What is the rearend on a gsl-se? Limi or Posi?-

-Will it bolt up to an '83 limited edition?-

j9fd3s 01-17-2003 11:06 AM

limited slip and posi are the same things. the gsl-se is limited slip. it will go in an 83 but you have to swap the side gears in the diff, they put larger axles in the 84+

Or just swap the complete SE rear with lines in it.Then look for some 4x114 rims.240sx's use them and alot of other cars do too.
