My 1984 GS is gunning at 2300lbs right now w/ just the interior removed and stripped down tar, etc. Has the dash and one stock seat right now....

Next I'm cutting the doors, putting an fg bumper and a cf hood on... I'm hoping that'll put it right around 2250 or so...

Yeah 78-79 is the only 1st gen u will ever find that was made light because they had no power mirror/window, only power hatch & a.c.

Yeah, we are talking everything though. I mean these cars would have sucked to drive on the street. Lightweight uncomfortable seats, no interior, no door panels...nothing...I will live with my extra few hundred pound for the added "luxury".

On a side note I think that it is so funny when people take out their passanger's seat so that they can save a few pounds. Come on now...

What are you building?

Just tossing around the idea of a 1st gen with some serious power...

Lightweight is the way to go...

I totally agree. When you say serious power what do you mean. 300-400? When you are sub 2000 and have tons of power that would be scary. Don't forget that if you are putting down some power you are also going to want a rear-end that will hold it. That will add another 50-100lbs unless you spend the 2k on the guru one.

At 400rwhp and 2000lbs would be insane...

Or you could just build a v8...but we won't go there while in nopistons.com...

Would a carbon fiber hood be lighter than fiberglas, or no?
Yes, but it'll cost a lot more.

i figured i'd check. i'd rather stick with fiberglas right now, because i'd be able to make it for a lot cheaper than it would be to buy a cf hood.

My rx7 has a 302 in it, 9 inch ford rear end, 14 point roll cage, heavy c6 tranny, and it weights just under 1900lbs without driver. It is completely stripped, we cut out all of the inside of the doors which took out alot of weight. We have done no fibre glass work yet, and the back 3 windows are still glass.

You car is by FAR the lightest that I have heard of. With that cage etc gone I am sure that it would be extrememy light...
