I am still new to the Wankel experience. Can anybody help? My 81 RX7 is in good mechanical condition. The only major problem it has is that it leaks drops of oil while the car IS RUNNING. Eventually, it leaves a decent size puddle. Any ideas what is causing this? I want to get it repair but I want to at least know what is wrong before I bring it into the shop. Thanks!!!

O-rings under the oil filter? Give the engine a gooooood cleaning, then look from there, the O-rings are cheap and easy, so I would try that first. You can get the o rings either from the dealer or from MazdaTrix

You didnt say what area its leakinf from..left side/ right side?

OK "I "think an 81 has an oil cooler that sits in the ft of the car. Also it can be from the Injection lines...coming from the oil pump...the get real brittle and crack...

it could be anything. You need to be more specific as to the location. Most likely, Its o-rings but those are everywhere.

Thanks for all the responses. I went to my local Mazda mechanic this afternoon and he said it was the compression seals. 1500.00 worth of work. I would usually try to attempt this task on my own like most other cars I've own, but the Wankel is foreign to me.

This guy IS the best in LA. Everyone recommends him. When he told me the price, my jaw dropped. Apparently this guys been doing this for 20+ years. No need for a 2nd opinion IMO.
