well I just bought a 85 GL... and an 85 GLS... the GL is a parts car. not that I need the parts.. but what should I do first to this car performance wise. I am blind when it comes to rotary. my other car is an SVT contour. I was thinking about doing an LS1 swap soon but I dont know yet. I kinda want to play around with the rotary... any tips or anything I should look for.. I will get pics as soon as I can. by the way if anybody wants any parts of my parts car I am selling them... just tell me what you need and I will see what i can do for ya

You should read a lot first.
Go to the sticky thread at the top and browse the links. |
Only bad thing is that a lot of links in the stickies are old and don't work :(
|
If it runs I would drive it and enjoy

it breaks down like this: 1st gen (this is the part where i'm least likely to make mistakes): S1: '79-'80 - old school looking taillights, thermal reactor, different bumpers and trim, points ignition system S2: '81-'83 - updated body parts (tails, bumpers, trim), electronic ignition, catalytic converters (my preference for the 12a models) S3: '84-'85 - essentially the same in 12a trim as the S2 models. S3 introduced the GSL-SE model with the fuel injected 6-port 13b, which is the holy grail of the 1st gens. 2nd gen: S4: '86-'88 - 145hp in NA trim, 180ish in turbo. 7krpm redline. S5: '89-'91 - 160hp in NA, 200hp in turbo. 8k rpm redline. 3rd gen: S6 - '93-'95(?) - 255hp in all trims, i know very little about this model aside from the basic rotary rhetoric. each generation has a F[B/C/D] chassis designation, with the exception of the first gen which has two designations... S1: SA S2-3: FB S4-5: FC S6: FD hope that info helps... as for what you should do with it... well that all depends. do you want to mod the **** out of it, or just have a little fun? i'd start with a full racing beat exhaust system. they're a bit expensive, but they pretty much can't be beat. should get you throwing down about 100-105hp to the road. i've heard claims of 115hp at the pavement with just the RB exhaust installed, but i have my doubts about that claim. these cars are excellent learning platforms for performance driving. have fun and good luck! |
thanks man that helps about so much....
I was over at racingbeat.com earlier and I tried to load up exhaust systems and it wouldnt work.. I was hoping to look at them... I want to do a full exhaust including headers and all and then I was thinking about the weber carbs... but like I said I am still really new at this and if you guys think I am about to do something really stupid then make sure to let me know |
IIRC, a new 12a racingbeat exhaust system will run something like $500ish. you could probably find one cheaper if you scour the classifieds.
you may also want to look into a paul yaw carb. he does application-specific mods to the stock nikki carb. generally, yaw carbs are less expensive than a weber setup... regardless of how you upgrade your induction, it'd be a great idea (in fact, pretty much necessary) to upgrade your fuel system. http://www.yawpower.com/racecarb.html |
