I'm looking to buy headers for my '84 12a; i have two to choose from, one RB (pictured) and one of similar design.

question: I think in order for a racing beat header to work, i also need the presilencer which I don't think is included (see pic). Is this header going to bolt on directly or will I need the presilencer.

First is a RB 2 into 1 with a 1.750 outlet, two bolt flange. Much used but in good shape.

Second is of unknown origin. Good quality though, and resembles a RB header. 2 into 1 with a 2.875 outlet, 3 bolt flange. Has some sort of coating on it, looks like it has been run at least once, but like new condition.

question2: the second header, with the 3 bolt flange, how is this to work when I thought the connecting pipe was a 2 bolt design???

You cant buy headers<<<biggest ricer mistake)

Ok ..I only saw one pic..of the RB header...

That is the same as this header (scratch here to see)

Why would you buy a used header...UNLESS you are gonan send it out to get it ceramic coated to look new...Look at the price of the new one..

For first gens there arent many companys making a header for them any more..DO NOT BUY PACESETTERS..they are very cheap in quiality....

I have a RacingBeat road race header..It came chrome..and has not rusted..just tarnish...And no you dont need a presilencer..if you change the exhast on any rotary it wil be louder...than stock...if you want buy a header...1 or 2 presilencers..and cat back exhast..now your about

600-800$ in the hole..dam I didnt think about it,,you probally dont have a hook up at an exhast shop..shops wont run exhast if you dont have a cat...

I have header..to 2 1/2 in exhast..to a presilencer (non fiberglassed,inline racing muffler) then to my muffler..

Rotary engines get very hot..and a regular muffler wont last long on these cars..My muffler got very loud..around 8 month mark...but who cares..

depends what you are going for on your exhast sytem..

thanks for the info. Glad I won't need the seperate presilencer; since this is a "streetable" header.

Does that mean my converters will remain? Or does the header replace both converters?

Speaking of headers. Here is a question for you, one I always get confused. In order for it be "headers" does it have to be 2 pieces? Like a V8? I always assummed since there were two exhaust ports it was the plural, or headers, and not header.

Damn sorrowz so what you are saying is, without a friend at the muffler shop I am screwed. I just checked it out; the RB header needs either a pre-slincer or the mazdatrix "grey area" converter ($400+).

Yeah its the law where someone cannot (like a shop) take off esmission parts...even thought Places dont have inspection..and places wont work on it if it dont have a cat..unless its pre 75...

you can try to take the header...have someone weld you a custom flange to bolt on to that with a 2 foot pipe ...

If the shop is good they can make u a custom flange..I had to get one made for my road race header..and its a 6 bolt square flange...

I dunno what to tell u on this...u can also try this.....

strip your real tail lights off...

gut the insides....

pull the doors off...

put the header on...tow it on a trailer or a flat bed tow truck..take it to a shop..and see if you can get the exhast ran..tell them the car is ..and wont be street legal...and its for the race track..maybe someone will bieleve you and do it..

well, I have a high-powered acetyline torch. I can always try and make a straight pipe myself...
