Hello,



I'm getting around 19-20 miles per gallon in my rx-7 right now...and I want better mileage...any input would be helpful...I would prefer some cheap ideas...but it doesn't matter



I have a 1984 GSL, 4bbl 12A, The carb cover has been modified...holes drilled on the outside unsealed area of the lid about every inch...she has straight pipes too...I still have the stock muffler...and catalyst that bolts where headers should be from what I understand of my car

We just put new belts on her...new 4 prong plugs...replaced the distrubitor cap and rotor

I still have the factory carb too



I don't care how loud she barks...I just want better mileage...like 25+ if that is possible



Also I was wondering if anyone know much about how the stock 84 rx-7 stereo wiring and stuff works...I managed to hook a extra factory amp in...came out of my parts car on the hill...went in easy...I have it running to a 6 or 8 inch...whatever it is...woofer with a crossover

If someone could tell me how many watts those amps put out it would be nice...not much wrote on em

As far as the gas mileage goes, that seems to be about the average for a 1st gen. Back when mine was stock(oh so many years ago https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR ), that was about what I was getting. The bad thing about a rotary is that it's not the most fuel efficient engine out there.

Not too sure on the amps, but it can't be alot.

Yeah, I typically got 17mpg normal driving for me. However in a crazy attempt to see what she was capable of, I drove an entire tank of gas @55mph....no hard acceration or major stops. Other traffic were annoyed by my slow driving. Anyway, I managed 29mpg!! I believe if the gearing was higher so that 60mph it was 2K instead of 3K. I would stress very much, this is not typical except of Grampa '7 drivers.

Really Jim? 14mpg? Thats not too shabby to me! Driving my mildport 12A to Duluth at 2am. Mm....Average 95+mph. At times, way above that unoffically. 100mile trip resulted in 10mpg!!!! I had to add a whole quart of oil!!!!! ..and gas ofcourse. 12A's oil metering injects way more then fuel-injected models by design, especially at sustained near full throttle. When I drive 70mph, I get around 20mpg, very little oil consumption.

19 mpg is pretty much standard. You can get a little better by installing a K&N, making sure you have no vacuum leaks, switching to quality plug wires (I build my own MSD wires), and converting to a better ignition. I personally like the direct fire MSD conversion using a 2nd gen coil, but there are others who run an extra stock ignitor and two MSD Blaster coils.



Don't bother with 91 octane. Run 87 - there's less octane booster and more real gasoline in there.



Drive nice and easy when you're just getting somewhere, and only jump on it when you're feeling froggy.

if the o2 sensor works, it should be 18-22 in mixed driving, more on the freeway...

Remove the stock fan (big drag on the motor!). Add an electric one. Drop the air pump (and AC if you don't need it or it doesn't work), straight pipe, 87 octaine gas, drive the speed limit... blah blah blah. than you may get 23 mpg!



Remove the interior, the glass, the driver, and the rotary engine (add a metro motor). Than you may get more.
