Headlight Question

I didnt get my manual yet. I don't know if you saw my thread but I just got an 85 last week. Anyway today I took off the drivers headlight cover so I could finally open the hood all the way. Now when I have the headlight popup switch pressed in, the pass side one stays up and the drivers one stays down, turn the switch off and vice versa, drivers one stays up. Can you tell me if they are manually adjustable like my FC and how I can adjust it so they both stay shut at the same time? I couldn't tell from looking in the back of the housing.

i havent really looked at mine before but i've helped my friend with his fiero an it had a **** that you could turn to raise an lower tha lights

theres a ****, but make sure you pull the fuse first. if you turn the **** when its powered it will snap back on you.

Thanks Mike. Well I did that, took the fuse out like you said and every time I put the fuse back in after adjustment, the son of a bitch pops back up! I did it with the pop up switch on and off too. No matter what or how many times I turn the adjustment **** around, the headlight ends up the opposite of the other one. This is driving me nuts. I disconnected the relay too while I was doing it... didn't matter, its like it has a mind of its own.



At least I can tell now that the damage really isn't that bad. The whole assembly is fine. I just need a new headlight cover... also, a new bumper and fender should bolt up pretty nice so I'm looking forward to getting it painted and back to stock looking.

yeah the headlight system is kinda confusing, i dont really know it that well

Have you checked the wiring. I'm thinking that the wires on the light have been changed over. Don't know if it's the same but, just like an electric motor, change the + with -- and the motor turns the other way.

I am guessing, if one headlight was up and the other down when installed would

they not cycle differently... I thought the motor just made one stroke at a time.. cycles once for up and once for down.. just guessing

The way the thing works is that the motor spins the arm to force the headlight up or down but it doesn't matter which way the motor is spinning... you can turn the **** either way all you want and the light will go up and down. Its a continuing cycle. Obviously there is something inside the motor that makes the light stop where you have it set.



My issue is, each time I set it and then replace the fuse, the motor wants to cycle once so it is ALWAYS in the opposite position of the other. I know this sounds confusing.. it is! Maybe I'm overlooking something basic... not sure.

i know on like the miatas if you push the lights up button often and fast enough you can confuse them in to getting out of phase. on a 1st gen though ive always just replaced the motor
