Gsl Se Stashed For The Winter
#1
Okay, the 85 GSL SE is getting put up on blocks in my garage this weekend (they salted the roads yesterday for the first time this season)
I want to go fast, but relatively cheap, so I was trying to figure out what to do. I'm in a state that requires an emissions test, so I need to kewep at least one cat to pass the undercar inspection. They do not check under the hood, though. Will a carb conversion on a 13B, and a freer flowing exhaust make a significant change in performance? If so how much? I haven't seen any real info on potential gains, as most of the info out there for first gens is geared toward the 12A. I really don't want to spend the money to port the engine, as it seems a 6 port 13B doesn't have as much to gain as other rotarys, plus I'd like to do only work that doesn't require removing the engine..
Any ideas?

if you want to keep the cat, heres the exhaust you want.
get an 86-91 exhaust manifold (the outlet is bigger), and have a shop make you a 2.5" system with a hi flo cat in it.
on the intake side: make sure the 6 ports work, also make sure the double throttle opens, the valve for these cars fails and the secondary throttle stays closed.
if you want put an open air filter on it (i'm using the fc hks adaptor with a hommade gasket) you need the adaptor hks # 17106-001124
you also want to advance the timing a tad too
thats basically what i've got right now, and we are dynoing soon so i should have #s

And if you want you could always put on a Racing Beat header and find a alternative method of opening your ports. Those 13b's respond well to minor mods.I should know.Mine is getting a 8513b soon seeing as the last one had a oil line failure on me.

Yhe racing beat exhaust system for 13B has a bung on the presilencer to send pressure back and open the ports already.
