While replacing the outside drivers door tonight, ('84 gs with manual windows) I found a small switch inside the door on the front part of the outside door handle. When you pull the outside handle up, the switch closes. Wires out of the switch join in the power mirror harness and pass through into the car. Car's in the 'dark garage' and I couldn't follow them from there. Anyone know what the switch does ? I couldn't see anything happen when I closed it.

Also there are 2 small wires coming out of the back of the key lock inside the door. One is cut or broken off. The car does not have power locks that I can see (no switches to open the locks, just the 'pull ****' on the top of the door). Were power locks even available in '84?

This car is real clean, no rust and I can see only drivers fender and front corner was painted a good while ago. The fellow I bought it from says never in winter and was scratched in parking lot - thus the paint work. All appears original so I don't think any of this has been messed with. Just bought the car a month ago.

Bet me too it! I knew that one.

Mine was sitting unattached in the bottom of the door when I found it.

That's 50% correct

If the bulb is still good, it will illuminate the door key hole when you lift the door handle.
