I recently purchased a non-running 84 GL. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor and proceeded to start the car. The car will only start after priming the carb and will not continue to run. I noticed that the fuel pump is only pumping when the key is turned to start (starter cranking). The pump should be on any time the key is "ON", correct? Any suggestions?

Thats incorrect. Unless you wire the pump differently. There is a cut off if it does not start. The fuel pump is only on while starting and running. If its in the on position and not running it will not pump fuel....unless the car is running.
