I am getting closer to swaping my 90 motor into the 84 GS. The question I have is do I need to change the oil pan and the front cover. Also I think im going have a problem with the motor being that it was a automatic car. I hope I just have to change the flywheel https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

You need the 12A cover and a GSL-SE oil pan. You'll have to modify the 12A brace or buy the RB one.

Either buy a lightweight flywheel for the 89-91 engine (you already have the auto counterweight), or buy a used 89-91 NA flywheel. Also you will need to install a pilot bearing and seal.

Are you going to run it carb or fuel injected?

Im going with a dellorto. So the A/T counter weight will work on a manual trans?

Only with a lightweight flywheel. They come neutral and bolt to the auto counterweight the same way the flexplate does. A stock flywheel has the weight cast into it.

PS: are you going to premix?

RX7CMS 11-04-2002 11:48 PM

I dont think I will have to premix I am going to use a gslse omp which should connect to the dellorto. This swap is starting to feel like a little more work than its worth. everything is being removed from the engine bay of the 84 that is not needed. and everything is being removed from the 90 motor that is not needed like all the emission crap :smirk:

It is a fair bit of work, but you'll end up with a bunch more HP.

I use to think it's more than its worth too.But after driving on it.I doubt I'll ever go back to the old 12a again. You'll love it.Even with a dellorto like mine power is great on it.I just need a CAI on it so I can run a huge ass K&N on it.

If you need a quick look at how the OMP hooks up to the Dellorto just click on the link in my sig.The newer pics I posted show it hooked up properly.

A 12A front cover will not work! You need a GSLSE 13B front cover if you want your OMP to bolt up. (Been there, done that, and have and extra 12A cover...) The 2nd gen 13B mech OMP has different mounting hole locations from 12A OMP's.

EDIT - The GSLSE OMP is also different from the 12A (GSLSE = 2nd gen Mech OMP - 4 ports)

When I converted my '86 13B to a 1st gen style front mount, I used a bicycle brake cable to operate the OMP from the Weber DCOE. It is nice and flexible and easy to route and adjust.

If you wind up with a gay intake manifold like mine, you'll only need a 12A OMP to run to the rotor housings.
