Okay, I have to calm myself to type this post.
Anyways, as you all know, I've been planning this 13b Cosmo swap (in my mind) for awhile. Well, today I stumbled across a GSL-SE. After reading over the parts list for the swap, I was wondering if it would be cost-effective to buy this car considering the suspension and other stuff he has done. Comments (GSL-SE) Car has been well mantained. It has Racing Beat dual exhaust, light steel flywheel, strut brace, and sreet strip clutch and pressure plate. It has Eibach springs and Tokico shocks and struts. It has a K&N filter charger as well. Falken tires are pretty new. New brake rotors all around and rear calipers are new. I live in Kennesaw. Car is originally from N.Y. There is some surface rust on drivers side fender and header panel nothing serious considering age of car. It also has a stereo system that consist of two 8" bazooka tubes, MB quart speakers on door and in rear, Kenwood deck and Eq, Acoustic crossover, and Pheonix gold wiring. Amps are not included with the car. Has Viper alarm and cut off switch. https://images.autotrader.com/images..._A.562x421.jpg |
except for the stereo stuff and it being white it sounds like my car.
as far as it being cost effective, that depends on your budget and how much the car is mike |
It looks nice.

I'm a moron, sorry, the price is sorta important isn't it?
$3500 is what he's asking. |
I know this doesn't help... but you never know what something is worth until you sell it, and on the other hand if you think this is a good deal and worth the money then go for it... I myself think the fb is a great car and have been working on the wreak I bought trying to get it road worthy... I paid less but then again its not on the highway either.... its your choice

Looks good.I love those factory spoilers. Can't wait for paint on mine.
|
So the question still stands, would buying this car be cost effective, or should I just buy a clunker and look for all the parts I'm going to need?
|
u can buy the car, drive till you get all the swap parts together or teh engine dies, and then get to swapping. but u already have a daily car, so maybe finding something with, pehaps a bad engine might fit your needs and pockets better.

whats your total budget? you may wat to run a spreadsheet or some thing
car ?? engine 1200-1500 ecu 1200-1500 mounts 100-200 tranny ??? etc etc mike car - $1000 engine - $1800 Tranny - $300 suspension - $500 Differential - <$100 (from a GSL-SE) Clutch - $350 Ignition - ?? That's all I really know of at this point...That's why I was asking for advice to see what other people would suggest. EDIT: I'm under the impression I will not need mounts if I go with this car. |
I'd skip it. That little rust is probably a lot more then you think. Look under the storage bins.
For 3500 bucks you can buy a lot more stuff. OR... if the bins look good and you feel you can ebay a lot of the stuff off it it may be worth it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png |
Okay so the general consensus is that I could do better by buying a car that's a lot cheaper. I don't think I could talk this guy down that much.
So is it set in stone that I'll need the crossmember from this car? Or can I just drill any 12a crossmember? I'm not trying to post-*****, or anything like that, I really want advice because I really want to do this swap. |
its not much work to mod the 12a cross member/mount. the gsl-se is argueably the cleaner way, but we're splitting hairs

better yet you can just fork over the 80 bucks or so and buy the mount from RB to mount a 13b in a 12a car
|
I think I would buy it... then again... maybe not... ohhh what the hell buy it.. looks great

On the flip side I could get an 85...it weighs 300 pounds lighter than the GSL-SE...but I'd definitely have to get a new suspension setup.
I don't know. I'm still thinking. |
FWIW, I spoke to the owner of this car about 4-6 weeks ago (or more). There is a lot more rust than he suggests. Ask him for additional pics, you'll see what I mean.
The real point is that if there is rust where the blurry pics shows (drivers side fender well) it means the car was driven in salt. That probably means rust in the supports behind the storage bins - wham...you just added $1000 to deal with that because that is not DIY project unless you have a lot of body shop/welding experience. I passed on this car for that reason. Given the rust, he is asking way too much for the car. I purchased a GSL-SE in much better condition, without the wing (or rust) for $2800. The car without the mods is maybe worth $2K, the mods are not worth $1500. Actually, I wouldn't have bought the car no matter how low he went because I am very leery of rust and dealing with it is not in my skill set. For others, it is a minor deal. good hunting, Brian T.C. |

I appreciate your input, this is exactly why I posted in here. You just saved me a lot of time, money, and effort, thanks! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif Now to check out the other FBs for sale in my area... |
Forget paying for someone else's mods...especially all the car audio stuff he's got. Maybe he'll leave some clothes in the driver's seat and want an extra 200 bux for that too.
A little too much money I'm afraid. P. |
