What is the brand of your muffler?

I have used the RB dual presilencer systems with no problems after years of use. As mentioned above though, you have to get off of your wallet to purchase one. The sound is absolutely incredible. The dual system keeps the pulses seperated all the way out. Nice deep throaty sound that is quiet with low RPM and throttle and a very distinguished loud note at wide open throttle. Of course, my blower and big ass Holley 770 mixed with some trick porting makes more noise than normal. The system is usually about $800 but you won't have to buy another exhaust for a long time.



Also, a quick note before I get flamed. I will post pictures of my ride this week. I been sweated for a little while during this whole rebuild and just wanted to wait for the final result. I'll post just as soon as I have everything complete.

keep 'em coming. I'm also leaning toward racing beat at least for the header and front muffler to activate the six port. I have a stainless flow thru cat that has the catalyst wrapped around the perfed straight pipe. I got it for $10 on ebay prolly cause its not even close to legal. Kinda like the child of a drunken encounter between a cheery bomb and a catalytic converter. I would use this in the center pipe more for noise control than sniffer test. What about the back muffler? An alternative to the $200 plus RB muff.

Flowmaster: tried it, didn't like it. Very loud. Very weird sounding.

I have a Dynomax ultraflow which has a nice, deep sound, but I see that these currently use fiberglass packing. Mine is older - I think it's stainless packed. Anyway it's several years old and works fine. It's an absorptive type muffler, and I've found that no number of such mufflers will quiet the deep bass note (not bad sounding, just loud). I added a Moroso Spiralflow before the Dynomax, which quiets the low notes well and doesn't appear to restrict flow.

I have tried the Dynomax bullet type race mufflers as well - they don't appear to hold up. I removed them while they were still working, but inside they have begun to collapse.

I have heard that the RB mufflers are quite good but pricey. There may be a "street port" model of this muffler available.

In testing back pressure, I have found that one thing in my system contributes greatly - the 3" cat. Without that I couldn't really get a reading.

i had dual universal N1s. everyone liked how they sounded.

I have always used magnaflows as mid-mufflers (when needed) and Supertraps at the end.



I plan to use a magnaflow 14221 dual 2.5" in, single 3" out on the RX-3.



I'll likely be using a RB road-race header run the dual back to before the rear diff, where the two pipes will terminate into this muffler then up over the rear axle with 3" mandrels ending under the bumper with a ss Supertrapp.

... and why would you want dual outs on a 1st gen.. this is backwards thinking.. it will be tough to fit dual pipes over your axles. don't even think about dual exhaust.. the fuel tank is in the way.. and there is no way around it.
