Extra Boost Of Power?

My 1st gen 84 rx7(pretty much worn out 180,000+ miles) will sometimes get a large burst of power and the throttle will stick wide open for a few seconds if I rev it over 4000rpm. Just wanted to know if anyone has any knowledge of this problem

there is a thing on the back of the carby that, is like an over center springy thing. it likes to pop off. you have to pull the spring up and put it over the lever. i hope someone has a picture its a lot easier that way

Thank you very much I reattached the cable and It quit sticking and seems to have more torqe.
