(IMO) Sounds like sediment or dirt in the tank. Theres a very fine screen on the end of the fuel inlet and after a while sediment sometimes builds up on the screen and makes the holes smaller and smaller(that is if all that is stock) finally any little thing will stop it up enough to starve the engine of fuel.

Dont RELY on this to be the problem though, Ive had the same thing happen and slowly replaced fuel components until I finally changed the carb and found that the jets were building up with setiment.

I had that happen to me. Forget about getting up a hill until you take apart the very top of the carb, like nod1stgen mentioned. In my case it was just a bad tank of gas. After that I installed a second fuel filter by the carb.
