This is what i was expecting.

btw ...the cars been running very harshly, sputters on take of then lays you into the seat for all five gears (as long as you dont try to touch the floor board with your foot, then it seems to bog a little), struggles after about 75 - 80 and then takes for ever to get to 100. WONT GO OVER 110, and wont cruise at any speed.

but...and let me know what you think....

I have found that the intake gasket seemed to be made out of an old floor tile, like asbestoes or something. Im not saying it is...after some of the things ive seen since i became addicted to these damn cars....im not speculating anything....it may be an actual (antique) gasket ...but it looks preety bad.

also...

when I removed the thermal reactor exaust manifold (the big square which also doesent belong on this motor) it didnt have the tubes that point the exaust towards the direction it needs to be traveling.

Now Im pretty mechanically inclined but I dont claim to be a rotary mechanic and I dont know much about the exaust system in these things but I know the #1 rule of flow and thats "keep it smooth and as open as possible"

So, and you guys can jump in here anywhere, this was what i was thinking...

The intake gasket was so bad off, and probably taken off and put back on at least once, that it was causing the sputtering when i was lightly pressing the gas to pull off and since the exhaust wasnt exiting smoothly if i pressed the gas to hard (to the floor) it was causing tumbling in the exhaust and made it seem to bog, that was also why it was struggling to make triple digits on the highway.

Anybody?

the pic: if you look real close it says hiroshima japan....do they all say that?

Anyway I plan on putting some time into putting it back together (without the rats nest) next week so I need input. and I guess an intake manifold gasket for this funky manifold. oh boy.

anybody got any asbestoes floor tiles...lol

I sell 1st gen rx7 parts and Ive never seen this setup on a 12a before.

Id appreciate any thing you guys might know about these things.

Thanks

Pic: This was what it looked like before i went vacuum hose crazy. everybody said "leak" and i couldnt find one, so i was going to eliminate the source. lol

if you're going to stay NA then yes, i'd definately keep them and make them working.

if you're going turbo, wire them open and do ablowthrough carb on that baby.

nod1stgen 08-08-2003 04:15 PM

I didnt think you could put turbo on a n/a. Ive always wondered if you could do that.

Is there a good web sight somewhere on that???

I'd kinda like to leave it n/a, if it is a japanese motor I probably dont want to mess it up too bad. But the information would be great for future projects.

Finally...

I called a guy at mazda dealer and he directed me to thier old rotory mech., Joe.

He said he wants to see it. Said it may have come out of an older mazda (Cosmo , RX3, etc) or someone might have put a N/A manifold on a fuel injected motor. Maybe I'll get some answers. I have a dock and he wants to go fishing. Maybe I can make a friend.

Does anyone know where I can get valve actuators at or if I can clean/recond. my old ones, theyre pretty nasty.

And can anyone tell me how to test them? haynes pg.279 has a diagram but it isnt helpful and the directions on pg. 278 para.230-231 mentions detaching a air hose from the valve pipe. I dont find anything.
