So you're saying there's really no advantage to me doing the T2 swap instead of the Cosmo swap? Isn't there a wider availability of parts for the T2 motor?

Dysfn- There are advantages because it's a newer engine with some upgraded parts Vs the T2 ones but for the extra 700 or so bucks you could buy a lot of other stuff. I'm not sure the T2 engine is easier to get parts for, I guess what kind of parts are you going to buy for it?? The only time you'll need to buy anything for the engine it's self is when it comes time to rebuild. Mike-P-28 just bought a rebuild kit for his cosmo (don't know why) and it's the same as a REW kit. So I guess you'll have to pay a bit more for the kit but they are just as available as a T2 one. After thinking about it for a second I guess the T2 engines are easier to get parts for. I forgot about the center and end plates. They are more available then the cosmo ones. You may be able to find cosmo plates but I'm sure they will cost you more then T2 ones.

If I got the Cosmo it just seems like I'd have to do a lot more work...exhaust, removing the turbo system, stuff like that.



With the T2, this stuff would be easier...plus with the extra money I can buy a nice turbo.

You'd have to remove the exhuast from either engine, same amount of work. If you're complaining about removing a turbo and manifold maybe you're not up to the task of doing a full turbo upgrade to a FB yet.

With either engine you'll be using the T2 trans so yes you'll need a custom driveshaft.

BUT if you just kept the stock turbo(s) on there you may get away with using a stock n/a FB trans.

Nah it's not that I don't think I couldn't do it, it's just more work for what seems like a minimal gain, you know?

its a big gain, the cosmo turbos are complex and add a ton of heat into the oil, plus any dp/exhaust has to be custom for it. with an fc turbo you cna at least buy an rb downpipe and it will bolt to the turbo.

It's no more work removing a set of cosmo turbos than it is removing a T2 turbo. Maybe I'm not understanding your reasoning??

I just get the feeling that for the extra money I would have to spend on the Cosmo motor, it's just more work for a minimal gain. I mean obviously no one promotes using the stock turbos, so that would require me to get a new turbo and all of the parts associated with it, which, as previously stated, aren't easily available.



With the T2, parts are readily available and with the money I'd save buying the T2 instead of the Cosmo motor, I would be able to comfortably afford buying a new turbo or possibly getting the motor ported.



Does that make any sense?
