clutch issue
#1
My clutch has been acting weird lately and today it got a lot worse. Its gradually been losing pressure in the pedal but the clutch still engages and disengages all the way. It just feels like its dead until it gets almost to the floor and then works. If i pump it it gains pressure. The fluid level is good but it is pretty dirty. What do you guys think the problem is? I looked in the FSM but there was nothing like this in there.
thanks

check the slave cylinder boot for leaking also
Your fluid is old and probably contaminated with tiny chunks of rubber from the clutch hose and seals. If you just replace one or two pieces, you stand a good chance of having more clutch trouble soon. I replaced mine piecemeal and pretty soon ended up re-replacing my clutch slave cylinder. Just replace all three at once and you're good for another twenty years, provided you replace your fluids like you should.

I had something similar. I replaced both Master and Slave and the problem didn’t go away. I broke down and took my car to a shop and they trouble shoot the problem and decided the throw-out bearing was bad and only engaging part of the pressure plate. Well, I fell for it and had them replace the clutch, pressure plate and throw-put bearing...It worked for a couple of days and started to fail again. I was a little pissed and out 400 bucks but went back to the beginning and treated it like a new problem. After a few hours I traced it back to the Slave Cylinder and a bad “cup” on the piston. Someone at the factory put it together with half the cup cut off. An $8 kit and I was back in business. Might check for kits and rebuild them yourself..
