Carbon monoxide, is in fact, completely odorless.

The odor you are smelling is something else.

It is likely the smell of unburned gasoline due to an over-rich mixture or incomplete combustion of the correct mixture. Some history of the vehicle is always helpful in these cases, but I generally recommend a compression check and then a thorough examination of the fuel and ignition systems.

It probably bears mentioning that the TPS is the cause of a great many RX-7 idle problems. Not sure how similar the 13B in the GSL-SE is to the 2nd gen. cars. You should be able to search and find a lot of info regarding testing and setting the TPS.

Also, you might check to be sure the EGR is fully closed at idle.

My first-gen-specific knowledge is pretty much nonexistent, but on a second gen, it's on the back of the engine near the firewall, best accessed from the passenger side (US market) of the car.

on the side of the intake manifold facing the passenger side fender. it's a mechanical piece and is more trouble than it's worth
