Any ideas on why my brake light would flash on and off. my brake light came on the first time about a week ago, I replaced the master cylinder and it went off. now a week later it keeps coming on and off. what else would trigger the brake light?

You mean your "brakes broke" light.

Flickering usually indicates a bad connection somewhere.

Depending on year, the brake light has many functions. On my 83 (same for all 81-83 cars), the brake light will come on with a burnt out bulb, the emergency brake being on, or low brake fluid in the master cylinder.

On my 84 (same for all 84-85 cars), the brake light comes on for low fluid in the master cylinder, and the parking brake. There is a seperate "Stop Lamp" light on the 84-85 cars.

I would say since its flickering, check for loose connections, and low fluid. You would be surprised how many times Ive solved this problem simply by topping off the master cylinder. Its because when you turn, all the fluid is moved away from the sensor in the master cylinder, temporarily tripping the light. If thats not the reason, make sure the connections are tight and plugged in well, and check all your bulbs and the connections at the bulbs. If all else fails, check the switch under the emergency brake handle. I listed all those is difficulty to accomplish, so maybe that will help ya too .
