Evening!

I have an '85 12A w/4 barrell. Had just put in a new drive shaft and when coming off an on ramp and accelerating all of a sudden herad a 'backfire' and performance went in the toilet. Runs ROUGH as HE@! and won't hold an odle.

If it were a piston engine, I'[d say I cracked an intake manifild or jumped timing.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

How fast does the car go now? I would check your compression, might be a toasted Apex seal.

That's what I was afraid of!!

It will get up to highway speeds, but not easily.

I don't have anything to check compression on a rotary. Will either have to take it to someone or find a compression guage form one of the local shops that will work witht he rotary.

Any other possibilities.

get a regular piston compression tester, remove the schrader valve thingy so that it does not hold the compression.

OR...

if you completely blew an apex seal, just remove one of the sparkplugs and listen to the motor as someone turns it over. You will be able to hear a pssst, pssst, pssst sound on s good rotor(one pssst for each rotor face) If you lost an apex seal it will loose two rotor faces so you hear, pssst, pause, pssst etc.

Tell me if that makes sense.
