Alrighty, so someone asked for pictures of my car (well, my engine bay actually), and being the type to never turn down an opportunity to show off my hard work, here are some pictures of my car...

RotorMotorDriver 07-27-2003 11:19 AM

Shes a little rough around the edges on the exterior, but otherwise a good car. Makes for a good sleeper https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png .

RotorMotorDriver 07-27-2003 11:21 AM

Hehe, I cant help but antagonize (sp?) them... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

RotorMotorDriver 07-27-2003 11:22 AM

A little bit of the interior...

RotorMotorDriver 07-27-2003 11:25 AM

Heres the back of the car in the hatch area. I just recently "finished" this area with all the stock interior pieces. I added a fire extinguisher after having two engine fires (one of which consumed my air filters :(). Hey, at least its a good name brand, not chrome, and not on the A-Pillar https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png. Besides, for a two pack at $20, it was a good deal.

RotorMotorDriver 07-27-2003 11:27 AM

Onto the "money shots" https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png. Here are some pictures of the engine bay (finally, I know). I couldnt really get over-all shots because of the goofy lighting. They all came out too dark because there wasnt enough ambient lighting, but there was still enough that the flas on the camera wouldnt work. So, these are the best I can do for now...

RotorMotorDriver 07-27-2003 11:28 AM

A shot just showing the other side of the engine and the DLIDFIS coil setup.

RotorMotorDriver 07-27-2003 11:30 AM

A picture showing the header, intake manifold, OMP lines, etc.

RotorMotorDriver 07-27-2003 11:33 AM

Picture of the oil distribution block I got from www.rotaryautosports.com for my mechanical oil pressure gauge. The stock oil pressure gauge also works off of this (dont ask).

~T.J.

RotorMotorDriver 07-27-2003 11:35 AM

Customized and upgraded fuseable link block. It uses MAXI type fuses that I can get at most gas stations and junk if I blow one out rather than being SOL if I blew a fuseable link. I carry spares anyway just in case (I carried spare links too, but still). Theyre cheaper too https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png. All the connections are soldered and what all too.

RotorMotorDriver 07-27-2003 11:37 AM

Last but not least, a crappy picture of the fuel pressure regulator and gauge. This is what I mean with the pictures coming out too dark...

RotorMotorDriver 07-27-2003 11:40 AM

So there you go. Feel free to leave any comments, questions, concerns or whatever. Ill do my best to answer them https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.

Looks Great!

virfighter 07-27-2003 07:18 PM

Wow, that all looks pretty good.

How is efan mounted and wired though? Does it mount through the radiator?

kettlman 07-27-2003 07:25 PM

hey, what part of wa you from?

anyways i'm currious about the coil and plug wire set up you have going on. hows that work? what does it do for you?

Racer X 07-27-2003 07:31 PM

Love the plate frame. Clean car.

RotorMotorDriver 07-28-2003 02:11 AM

Thanks for the compliments guys https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.

virfighter: The E-Fan is wired using a temperature probe that goes through the fins of the radiator so when the car gets to be certain temp, it comes on. The fan itself is mounted by using an electric fan mounting kit. Basically, high tech zip ties.

kettlman: Im in the Woodinville area. The plug wire and coil setup I have is known as DLIDFIS or Dual Leading Ignitor Direct Fire Ignition System. You can read all about it here: http://www.geocities.com/cd23c/dlidfis.html

Racer X: Yeah, I had it made at the mall. After I do my theroetical 13BT swap I have in mind, Im gonna be bumping it up to the Viper killer https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png.

drifter 07-28-2003 02:32 AM

theres a few threads on DLIDFIS in this forum and plenty of how-to's.

That's really nice looking! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

miltstheman 07-28-2003 04:35 PM

It's freakin' gorgeous under that hood...

Have you considered a clear hood? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683572.gif

virfighter 07-28-2003 09:03 PM

High-tech zip ties, huh? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

One more question about your fan, did you pull your shroud b/c it didn't fit or what? Also, does that hurt cooling any?

RotorMotorDriver 07-28-2003 11:51 PM

Once again, thank you SO much for the compliments everyone. It really means a lot to me to know that you appreciate the work Ive done as much as I have.

Racer X: Thanks for posting the link. If you click the picture in my sig it takes you there as well, and you can read abut my car "in depth", starting from the day I brought her home from the junk yard.

millstheman: In all honesty, yeah Ive though about it, but would never actually do it. To be completely honest, on really nice days after a nice wash (both exterior and under the hood), I just take the hood off. Its only 4 bolts and easy enough to get on and off. I drive aroung like that for a little while. It sure attracts the attention with the intake roar and all. Its even gotten some good coversations going with some other people who know about the cars https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.

virfighter: I never actually tried to put the stock shroud on. I didnt feel there was a need for it. As for hurting the cooling, I seriously dobt it seeing as my temp gauge NEVER goes over 1/4 up. Of course, I do have a new (within the last 6 months) radiator, thermostat, water pump, and fresh 50/50 water and coolant.

Hope that answers everyones questions. If you have anymore comments or questions, please feel free to post https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.

Ya know what, i live in the same state as this fool, and have yet to actually meet him.

*shakes head*

heheheh

BTW man, you really really need to cleun up that firewall!!! Looks like your oil system took a crap on it!!!

(Yes, only making comments about the bad, hey someone had to!!)

jk.

anyways man, you should come over and help out on my car sometime. Next step is to get a custom oil return line from the turbo to front cover, then to install the carb, then to install rising rate fpr, then lock distributor full advanced, then install FMIC< then pipe it, then install BOV, then install boost control, then install exhaust, then drive i think. then figure out why it isnt driving, then fix that. then figure out why it STILL istn driving, then fix that, etc..

o yeah, sweet car man of course you know i already think that :-)

Yeah, well I have a good reason for not meeting you. You may live in the same state, but 8 hours away from me and like 2 seconds from the Idaho border makes it a little far for a casual "hey lets hang out" trip, lol. Hell, you probably get your potatoes from your next door neighbors yard eh? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Yeah, the firewall, inner fedners, and underside of the hood piss me off like none other. The car was undercoated either by the factor or somewhere, and they didnt care for **** where it went. Its actually not oil and **** all over it, but rubber undercoating. The stuff comes off fairly easily with your finger nail, so everytime I get bored under there, I work on a small area. Maybe someday it will all be gone. I have yet to find a tool or chemical that can assist in this process. Anyone know of anything?

As far as helping, I really do want to. I just need to get a damn job (I just realised its been over a year since I had one https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R )so I can afford the gas, then I would be over there.

On a good note for anyone who cars, I made a linkage for my OMP the other day. I just used a piece of sttel stock to make the linkage arm that hooks to the throttle shaft on the carb, and then a metal coat hanger to make the rod out of. I plan to upgrade the materials after I get all the kinks worked out so to speak, but it works good for now. For those who dont know, I previously just had the OMP wired all the way open. It worked fine, but I thought it was time to just hook it up "right".

~T.J.

ioTus 07-30-2003 06:51 PM

Good job on the OMP!!

Yeah dude, get a job! I just did, its awesome!!! money!!!!!!

anywyas, i'll just have to get your number so you can help me out over the phone, you know a lot more about carb setups than i do. i could really use your imput! PM me your number please.

RotorMotorDriver 08-02-2003 10:18 AM

Well, heres an update for anyone who cares. Unfortunatly on my way home last night on Aug. 1st, I lost compression on my rear rotor. Heres a thread at the other forum about it if you care to read it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

Nice car. Sorry to hear about your loss.

RotorMotorDriver 08-02-2003 10:32 AM

Thanks man.

~T.J.

Racer X 08-02-2003 11:07 AM

Are you going to rebuild it?

TyresmokinRx7 08-02-2003 11:02 PM

Nice car. Sorry to hear about the motor.

RotorMotorDriver 08-02-2003 11:33 PM

Well, Im not sure wat Im going to do with it yet. Im either going to do another 12A, or a 13BT, but I dont know how or when yet. I have no job, no money, and no other transportation to look for a job, so Im kinda between a rock and a rotor face (as Jerk Racer said, lol).

Idealy, I want to get a daily driver and then I would like to drop a 13BT in there because Im kinda done with the N/A engines. I figure Ive experianced enough of them for now. Mine may have been a little on the weak side becasuse of low compression, but I dont think a ported engine would even be that significant. My goals are just too high to not have a turbo, lol.

In reality, I dont know whats going to happen...

~T.J.

TyresmokinRx7 08-03-2003 12:15 AM

Go with a 12A turbo then.

RotorMotorDriver 08-03-2003 12:21 AM

Thought about that too, and that was my original plan all along. I was going to turbo my setup I have now. But, I dont think thats very workable right now either.

~T.J.

p0sta1 08-03-2003 12:41 AM

Not to digress, but what does it feel like to loose compression in the rear rotor, or either rotor for that matter? And what does it mean, you guys automatically started talking about rebuilds when he said he thought he lost compression....its that bad? :( https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR

Other than that, nice car! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png You said something about replacing something in the interior, was it the carpet in the back? If so, where did ya get it from? Because I've been searching for one for a while, finally found a site, but they didnt have the red I needed. :(

Yes, losing compression is bad thing and that means you could have a bad seal.

Yes you will fill power loss.

RotorMotorDriver 08-03-2003 12:59 AM

Hey, its all good. Im always willing to help https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png.

Well, loosing compression in a rotor is a sign of a bad seal somewhere. Most commonly the apex seal with is what seals that chambers from eachother. When these seals go bad, it requires a full disassembly of the engine to replace them, so in other words, a rebuild. Sometimes you can squeeze by with just replaceing the bad seals (IE - only the apex seals) and re-using the others, then sealing it back up with a gasket kit. Other times, its necessary to replace more if not all of the seals because theyre out of spec.

As far as what it feels like, it basically runs absoloutly shitty. It will have no power, and takes about 1/2-3/4 throttle and feathering the clutch just to get anywhere. This of course all depends on how bad the seal is. If its a small crack thats just leaking an excessive amount, it would obviously run better than a car that shattered the seal or threw a chunk of it out the exhaust. I described a little more what it was like to me with my car in the thread I linked to earlier, although that forum is down right now.

Low compression on the other hand, can just be a slow or weak feeling car. I think thats what my car was doing before it died. Although, a car simply out of tune can show some pretty gloomy symtoms...

~T.J.

kettlman 08-03-2003 02:13 AM

yeah, it sucks to blow a seal. the car gets real load too. but both of mine that blew still got me home.SLOWLY, but got me there. now i have a pretty, shiny bumblebee in my car. stupid starter didn't work though. that cramped my style.tomarrow. well good luck and glad to see your in a better mood now.
