I am wondering the advantages and disadvanteges of the 82 RX-7. I do not know the certain model of it though. I do know it has a new engine. They came with 12a's correct?

I have a decent deal going on down here for 600 bucks. I am looking at it tomorrow.

Anyways, wanting to know what breaks on them easily, interior/exterior wise, and engine wise?

Also would like to know the stock hp and torque numbers? And they were 4 speed correct? Or was it 5?

Thanks in advance guys.

in 82 they had a 12a with 100hp and 100lbsft, either a 5speed stick or a 3 speed auto. they all had pretty much the same engine from 79-85 so the drive drain on the 82 isn't really any better or worse than any of the other ones.

The FB tranny is stronger than an SA tranny. The speedo probably reads up to 85MPH. It has the lightest flywheel. Real (air) oil cooler. I can't think of anything else. Oh yeah, the engine will last forever if it was built with care.

You can get a Sterling carb for it. Upgrade to direct fire igniton system. Racing Beat bolt ons like exhaust, suspension, intake (if desired). Atkins makes a 7" supercharger that will bolt right on. Limited rims available for the 4x110 bolt pattern, but 1st gen people will know where to get them.

Wow, I can tell I like the 1st gens.

LOL. Thanks Jeff.

I was thinking of peri-porting the snot out of it, fully tub it, and put some Mickey Thompson's and beat Jesus all time all motor record.

I just want a good solid car. And bad thing is it is another rotary. I am hoping it would be a GSL. Can't beat that Limited Slip Differential.

I got some 14 AE wheels that I can sell you. Mazda only made 5000 sets.

Well, you could have Scalli do some P ported 12A turbo/12A 6 port rotor housing (they're about the same price as US-spec housings, but already have 10º more exhaust porting).

That is also a good point Jeff. That would be awesome to have though. A peri-port 1st gen. But I am dreaming right there.

Thanks for all the answers.

And camocarl, I don't have the car yet, and don't know if I will get it or not.

Doesn't CP racing make a 5 bolt adapter for 12A cars? Might be helpful. You still have to deal with major backspacing.

If you change to GSL-SE brakes (and strut assemblies and rear so it'll all fit), those wheels will fit.
