I consider myself a considerable problem solver, and I think I can fix it my self I just need some direction.
I have an '84 RX7, manual, 1.1L that wont start. It will turn over. I sprayed ether in the carb and still no fire. I put DeIcer in the fuel tank, thinking that the lines were frozen. Could the starter be bad? Is it in the plugs and ignition? How do I test for these things? Or is in the fuel? New fuel pump? Please help. I need my car running by friday. |
starter is OK if it turns over the engine. If you put ether in the carb and it still won't start then its most likly no a fuel problem. Sounds like a spark problem. Take 1 wire off a spark plug, stick a screwdriver into the wire and hold it really close to bare metal. Have someone crank the engine, there should be a spark that jumps from the screwdriver to the metal. if no spark it's either the distributor, ignitors, no power to distributor, or a bad coil, I miss anything guys?

I say, mightn't it be flooded??? Of course, I reckon that it isn't such a problem with carbureted sevens... Also might have no compression.
|
it could be flooded, or blown. blown is a tad unlikely, they will usually start

I had it started the other day, about a week ago. OK I'm going outside to shock myself. I will tell you all how it comes out. Thanks for the quick reponses.

Make sure it isn't flooded. If you had it started before like you said last week you might just need to unflood it.Let us know how it goes.Check the plugs condition too while your at it. :bigthumg:
