I consider myself a considerable problem solver, and I think I can fix it my self I just need some direction.
I have an '84 RX7, manual, 1.1L that wont start. It will turn over. I sprayed ether in the carb and still no fire. I put DeIcer in the fuel tank, thinking that the lines were frozen. Could the starter be bad? Is it in the plugs and ignition? How do I test for these things? Or is in the fuel? New fuel pump? Please help. I need my car running by friday. |
starter is OK if it turns over the engine. If you put ether in the carb and it still won't start then its most likly no a fuel problem. Sounds like a spark problem. Take 1 wire off a spark plug, stick a screwdriver into the wire and hold it really close to bare metal. Have someone crank the engine, there should be a spark that jumps from the screwdriver to the metal. if no spark it's either the distributor, ignitors, no power to distributor, or a bad coil, I miss anything guys?

I say, mightn't it be flooded??? Of course, I reckon that it isn't such a problem with carbureted sevens... Also might have no compression.
|
it could be flooded, or blown. blown is a tad unlikely, they will usually start

I had it started the other day, about a week ago. OK I'm going outside to shock myself. I will tell you all how it comes out. Thanks for the quick reponses.

Make sure it isn't flooded. If you had it started before like you said last week you might just need to unflood it.Let us know how it goes.Check the plugs condition too while your at it. :bigthumg:

that is a nice chair. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/beer2.gif Those are single pron plugs? You should be using the NGK 4 prong style.Makes starting way easier.
|
hot or cold? wires also? the wires are less than a year old
|
Wires should be good to keep.Hot are better for daily driving and cold are better for power.I like to run hot ones at this time of year myself.
|
Also, the NGK plugs are notorious for being stubborn. I once bought a brand new set of plugs, ran my car for 3 days, flooded the engine, and had to buy new plugs. It took me about 7 hours to realize it was the plugs, because sometimes its too damn hard to tell. Of course, I was running a jetted stock Nikki, and sometimes fuel liked to accumulate in on the secondaries if i sat just before WOT. If i never oopened her up to WOT before I shut the car off, then she would flood, really bad. Talk about a rebuild gone wrong. Oh well, I rebuilt her after that and the carb was fine. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
BTW - IMO the best way to clear a severly flooded engine is this: Remove all plugs, and remove T and L coil wires. Spray some ether through both 1 and 2 rotors, and crank her for a few seconds. Always worked like a charm. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png |
I will give it a try Wed, and I will tell you all how it goes. Thanks for the reponses.
