Question

I just bought a rx7 today for 400 is in good shape but it seems like it has a great loss of power. I don't know anything about rotary engines I'm 16. The top speed right know is 60 miles  I think it could be a timing problem but I have no Idea it back fires a bit too. I was also told it brunded oil but it was supposed to. to condition the engine any help with my car will be helpful. I can't wait to get it running right. I've always wanted a rx7. I couldn't trun down that price. Also What engine is in it 12 or13 just curious.

The only 1st gen 7's that had the 13B engine were the '84 and '85 GSL-SE's. All others were 12A's. Get the compression checked first to make sure the engine you've got is going to work. Otherwise, you'll be rebuilding it or swapping it out.

^yeah, but you can get 160hp out of a 12a fairly easily which is decent enough for such a light car.

Glad to have you on board, and congrats on the 1st gen! The GSL-SE has about 130 or 135 hp compared to the 101 in 12A powered ones. Of course this is stock, and over time the hp will fade from lower compression and clogged cats and stuff like that. You better take everyone elses advice and check the compression on the rotors to make sure the problem doesn't lie in an Apex seal or something internal. But hey, 1st gens are cool and I love driving mine a bit more everyday :bigok:

Exhaust, intake and an after market carb. I don't know much about the sidedrafts but I think that would be the way to go. Racing beat makes a fine exhaust system that will make your 12A turn a whole lot better.
