Well I finally took some pictures to start this deal. I am new to this Rotary thing. But have been a back yard mechanic for years. I got this as a loner from my brother, who picked it up for my son who did not want it. So I am hoping to get it off him, but in the meantime I have something to tinker with. I'll be asking suggestions on stuff, any constructive comments are apreciated.

Hey good to see another 1st gen given cpr. If your planning to do a 13b swap the BEST advice i can give is to budget. When i did my rx-7's new motor i spent way to much money on things i thought would be great but ended up being nothing more then extra crap i didn't need or even really want. But i can say there are 3 things every new n/a rx-7 owner needs to do when they get their ride. 1: set hp expectations. What do you want? A road demon? a weekend warrior? a sleeper? Or just a fun spin the tires once in a while daily driver? Big HP is in 13btt's converted to single t(its a common change), t2 13b's seem to need a bit more love( big porting etc) then a 13btt to go big HP. Want a revvy motor? a 12a ported and balanced will give you all the revs you can handle. These cars are ran HARD, I MEAN REALLY HARD. A rotary owner is someone special, they like to push it a little far sometimes, yes that includes me. 2: get a egt setup( works with header on the car, oh yea you add a header your likely to get like 10~12 hp extra out of the car). Its a great tool to tune carbs. 3: talk to a experienced rotary engine biulder i.e. Rob Golden of pineapple racing etc. they have a real comprehensive knowledge on all things rotary (conversions etc.). Oh, one more thing. DO NOT BUY A USED ROTARY MOTOR UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO REBIULD IT!!!!!! I cannot stress that enough, you think you are getting a deal when most of the time your getting the shaft I say most because there are some decent people out there who are just trying do do a friend a fellow rotary enthusiest a favor when they sell a used motor) anyway thats my 2 cents.

Thats me, I want to make a fun comuter car. I hope that it isn't sacreligous to say something like that here First was cleaning the tank, a good gallon of water was in there, surprised it ran at all. Now to get the indicators and flashers working, replaced the flasher switch no joy there. Afraid it may be the CPU, guess I need a real mechanic to sort it out. But will keep info coming. Also thank you for the input Zeroecco, look forward to more from any and all.

I highly suggest converting the ignition to a direct-fire MSD setup. I personally converted to an MSD-6A with a 2nd gen coil and gained torque, a longer upper powerband, better fuel economy, smoother idle, and a less smelly exhaust. Later on you might want to consider a header.

I'd have to diagree with that last one... the MSD did jack-all for me and I used 2 MSD Blaster II coils. Personally, it actually seems like my idle skips MORE with it... Fuel economy yielded no gains... (I get around 22-23MPG magically. same as before)

Biggest waste of $300 I'd ever seen.... $300 gets you a header. Which you will love. without a doubt.

absolutely, and do the dldfis like i said, you'll like that as well because it works. Besides who want to pay extra for something like that when you could get egt setup from pineapple for 250? egt is great for tuning carbs... if i am not mistaken a rotary with a good exhaust should be about 1650 f 6 inch off the exhaust port.

if "budget" is the best advice you've gotten thus far, then i'll be the voice of "patience". you'll need a lot of it .... i second the notion of taking the time to build the 13B you buy. it's true that some people are just lowlife peices if ****, while others are honest and just want to help, but i think there is a third set, too - the ones that simply don't know. anyway, the point is, in terms of time and money, you know exactly where you stand when you rebuild it yourself (or have someone reputable do it for you) and that helps in the long run.

great to see another clean Gen I getting some love.
