Hi guys, i have an 84 rx7 12a. Well ever since I got it, it has "hesitated" around 1500 and 2500 rpms and it doesn't like to accelerate smoothly either. I've just put up with it but I'd like to fix it. Any clues? Oh, and it isn't the accelerator pump. I have already rebuilt the carb.

I'll do that. I replaced it when I put a new gas tank in, but it wouldn't hurt. The old one had rust in it. Oh, and all of a sudden its also stumbling at higher rpms too. I'm getting frustrated.

I put a new rotor and distributor cap on last night and the problem went away. Now the car only hesitates right when you hit the gas. Any suggestions?

Yes. I even took it to an auto shop and had them check it after I already had.

When you rebuilt it did you blast out the channels, jets, etc with air? You didn't adjust the float by chance?

Plugs are in decent shape?
Also, do you still have the rats nest?

The problem magically went away while I was driving today. Go figure. Put new plugs and wires in about two months ago. However, if by rats nest, you are referring to the crazy number of vacuum hoses, yes, I do still have the nest.

Could have had a little gunk stuck in one of the passages and/or jets that cleared itself. I've had one of my Nikki's apart 3 or 4 times before I got it working decently...still had a lot of issues. Seemed to be aggravated on rainy or humid days more than anything.

Gutting the nest fixed a lot of those random issues I had over the years. Really wish I would have done it sooner. It was really just a giant vacuum leak waiting to happen...
