I have had an 82 GSL for about 4 months now. It runs good, has lots of power with around 178,000 miles on it. Just recently I started driving 100 miles a day, 50 each way. I average about 70 mph and have noticed that when I arrive there is a whole lot of smoke coming from the rear of the engine..it really poors out the hood. After it cools down for a couple of minutes it goes away. I go through about a quart of oil every 1500 miles so I don't think it is burning it up faster than it should be. I was just wondering if this was normal. I had an 86 before this and it never smoked like the 82 after driving 70-80 mph for a while. I have been keeping down to 65 for most of the driving, but I would like to go faster. There is little traffic and not too many police. Any help would be awesome, thanks.

{denny}...The rear wing looks very nice, I agree about the rear of the first gen needing a little extra.

Well my 12A had the same thing, don't know if it's necessarily normal, it has 178,000. On it, my best guess on on min is an oil pan gasket, the reason I say that is the oil, from what I can tell is from the pan down. If you want to check it out, pressure wash the eingine as best you can, drive it and take a look and see if you can tell where it starts.

Hope that helps.

Check the front side of the flywheel. (there are a couple of sheet metal access plates on the top and bottom of the engine.) If there is oil on the front side then you are probably leaking from the rear seal of the engine. If so, you have to pull the flywheel to fix it...
