Mazda's are cheaper as a whole, not in parts. It would be better to find a old SE and start from there.

But... a modified 1st gen with all kinds of mods (including some SE parts) would be a lot of fun!

never did it...never bought the front conversion. figured it wasnt worth it. the money could be better used for something better. bigger brakes didnt mean much to me, it will never see a track with curves...

sorry...

Well, it's been 2 1/2 Months, Have you done it yet ? I just cracked a rotor and figure it's time to upgrade. Some '84-'85 rotors are less than the '80 units. I'm sticking with solid vented rotors since it's mainly a track car (NASA) but I'd like ti find out if you had to change anything other than the rotors and the dust covers?

wheels, and struts unless you've got an 84-85 car, calipers....

UGLY, if you just want to switch to the 83-85 brakes (non -SE) you can find the rotors extremely cheap on rocauto.com -- and as of about 6 months ago what they were sending were repackaged Brembos. The spindle size is different from 79-82 and 83-85, newer being larger. This means the rotors are different, as well as the bearings/races. Switching to the newer struts would be a worthy swap.

As far as the difference between G, GS, GSL and -SE, I don't know.. but I can't imagine the spindle size is different. At least the rotors, calipers, and brackets are different. You ought to be able to buy the GSL-SE rotors online for cheap, as well.
