I've heard both. RX7.com says SA22C, but is it also FB? All I could think of is that maybe the 12A ones were SA22C, and the 13b were FB?

the 79-80 models are sa22c everywhere,

in 81 in the us we switched to the 17 digit vin # so our 81-85's are fb's, while the rest of the world kept the sa22c style vins.

yep, what Mike said.

In Aus, our first gens are SA's and then 2nd gens are FC's, etc

But in saying that, we don't different models (ie, GS, GSL-SE, etc) and we call our rx's in series rather than vin codes anyway. For example 79-80 series 1, 81-83 series 2, 84-85 series 3 , etc etc

yeah, we have the same vin codes, we just don't use them for describing the model.
