Ok so here's the story. I picked up an 85 gsl-se that didn't run. The previous owner converted it over to carb from fuel injected. We rebuilt the engine and it won't start. It will crack, but not fire. We have checked spark, compression and fuel. If anyone can offer some other ideas that would be great. Thanks.

Dude! this may sound basic but, have you checked that the ignition wires leading up to the spark plugs are in fact in the right spots

L1: Lower plug (rotor 1)

L2: lower plug (rotor2)

T1: top plug (rotor1)

T2: top plug (rotor2)

and also keep in mind that the engine needs to spin relatively fast and that after a rebuild the engine will take considerable amount of time to start.. Oh and you will need to change those spark plugs at least 2 to 3 times (or clean and dry them) before youll fire up again after the rebuild

I am new to this forum but if you are willing to help I have the same problem. Complete rebuild on a 13b, still fuel injected, took off the omp. I have fire, made sure all wires are connected to the right plugs, I have fuel to the primary injectors, and I have compression. I have made sure the cas is all lined up properly and made sure my battery and all fluids were to proper levels. Still no start I need all the help and suggestions I can get.

used part[b]s rebuilds can be done..... new apex or old set from another motor with good height.. new or old side seals if new maybe side seal clearance is too much.. dump oil down the carb grab 2 sets of plugs get a jump box and start her up. u might have to crank the crap out of her to build enoufgh compression to start dont **** with gas too much she'll flood easy... if it starts no omp it will help the motor break in rev short and let idle for a while

welcome to the board.

you probably should have made a new thread, and posted this in the Rx-8 section.

anyway ...

you'll really need to track down the coolant leak first. it may or may not mean anything for the engine itself in terms of the rebuild, but at the very least it is a potential issue when you get it started.

for the engine itself, you're going to want to start with the basics:

1. check the compression. make sure the chambers have a coating of oil in them.

2. check your fuel supply (pump/filter assembly is clean and functional, lines are clear). make sure the injectors are correctly plugged up to the harness.

3. check your ignition. check the coils (they are notorious for not working). make sure the plugs are firing and that the plug wires are in the correct places. make sure the crank angle sensor is plugged in and the crank wheel is in place and not damaged.

start there and see if you can get it going.
