alrighty then, heres a stumper. To put a 13b in a 12a chassis I keep hearing you need a 13b gsl-se front engine cover, which I'm beginning to think are extremely hard to to find (like a fart in a hurricane in fact).

Where can you get these things, what are the alternatives. It might in fact be cheaper to fab a new crossmember/engine mount than source a gsl-se front engine cover. If this turns out to be the case then I might just buys headers and a weber instead.

Does anyone have thoughts on this, or even better a mazda part number and an idea of cost to source this tricky little bugger.

Thnks

I see them on the parts trader and ebay all the time. Not that hard of a part to get.

are you sure, all I've found on ebay in the last month is a full 13b gsl-se engine selling for over a 1k, thats way too much. I've been checking the partstrader pretty thoroughly every couple of days. I guess I just need to sit back and wait until my part shows up.

Is there a mazda part number?

I thaught the 13b and 12a front covers were the same. Whats the differance between the two?

On the 84/85 cars - Nothing. They are the same.

What he needs is an SE Oil Pan and Crossmember. The oil pan is $89, - NEW, and you can actually use the stock 12 crossmember with the 13B, if you drill it.

He can possibly use the oil pan, depending what car it came from. Just remove the pan, heat it up with a torch, and work it into shape to clear the suspension. The ears on the stock 12A front mount are not long enough to drill another hole. He needs to extend the mount by welding some extra steel to the end and then drilling. Here is a pic of the mount mod.

the only difference between the 12a front cover and the gsl-se is the gsl-se uses the 86-88 metering pump

A have a full 13b 86 n/a parts car that I intend to use for the swap with an injector block-off plate and the stock nikki carb from my GS, should I use the 13b front cover and the oil metering pump for the 86 that goes with it? I found the GSL-SE oil pan, thanks for that.

Slowly but surely coming together.

Last question. Whats the weight difference between the 12a and 13b, do I have to think about uprating the stock springs in the front to cope with the new motor.

Seriously considering the rack and pinion conversion from CP, the steerings the thing I like least in my fb.

to the left is the the GSL-SE front cover people prefer it over the 12a one because it provides the perfect spot to drill and tap to bolt on the oil return line of the turbo
