On the SA, I toasted the sub-frame on a MF rock at the last hill climb. Managed to find a new shell with a full cage but it is an FB. Pulled the motor and went to dump it in the new shell and the oil pan is hitting the front cross member. Checked through all the spare parts and the front mount appears to be the same as the engine that came with the car and the oil pan looks identical too. Is there something I'm missing here?

thats odd, the front mount, subframe and oil pans are all basically the same 78-85...
maybe the front bracket thing is bent? |

maybe the front bracket thing is bent? The bracket's not bent. I checked 4 different brackets. Is the subframe the same on a GSL and a GSL/SE? It appears to be a GSL because it has disk brakes all the way around and the bolt pattern is 110 mm but it's possible the shell started life as an SE. I can't find the VIN to check either. The PO also gave me 2 titles (really didn't care because this is track only car). |
the SE's subframe will have the engine mounts 20mm further forward on the subframe.... i think that must be it

Yeah, looks like it. Any way around it other than finding another crossmember? I think my SA crossmember might be toast from hitting that BMF rock. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif |
ive seen people put an adaptor plate in there, or maybe it works if you flip the front mount thing around?

If your referring to the bracket that bolts to the motor, no can do. It not symmetrical. It's definitely offset more to the driver's side. I was thinking of just drilling another set of holes 20mm back. there looks to be plenty of metal there. |

Done. Measured 20mm to the rear of the drivers side and drilled a 7/16" hole. Put the motor mount in place and lowered the motor onto the repositioned mount. Then we eyeballed the passenger side and drilled another 7/16" hole and put the second motor mount in. Dropped the 12A in place and hooked up the drive shaft. Everything seems to fit well and no clearance issues. Thanks for the help, j9fd3s. |
no prob! and now you're ready for the 13B
