Have you guys seen one like this..????

[attachment=43810:rx7_iNTAKE.JPG]

Or has anybody made one like this..???

Clarks7 01-28-2008 03:40 PM

Does that do any good? It doesn't look like that angle would help any airflow, and it has added a big straw... now add some force air to that and it might be a neat intake:)

RE_TurboFB 01-28-2008 06:20 PM

So i should plumb it down in front of the inner fender well...Or plumb it in front of my radiator..????

I was trying to create the whole plenum thing with the carb cap..

Clarks7 01-28-2008 06:32 PM

Well, the more you plumb, the more it needs to suck, the more it takes away from its efficiency... It looks like a good base to add a turbo to a carb... but that would require the addition of a turbo, intercooler and plumbing.

The ideal intake for a NA carb would be least restrictive (i.e. shorter intake, and if you want it to be cold air, straight up out of the hood... but don't do that unless you can hide it under a scoop).

I guess if you are going fast enough, run it in front of the radiator or make a cold air box under those vents on your hood (if they are functional).

I like the start of it, and it is cool the way you connected it to the carb... it looks like an original 12a turbo intake!

Does it sound cool? Where did you get the carb cap?

RE_TurboFB 01-29-2008 12:12 AM

I made it.. All the other intakes were petty spendy And I have scrap just laying around.

I was thinking of how a MFI car has a plenum going to runners and that doesnt seem like good angles for air flow. So I thought that the 3" pipe to the 4" plenum would be OK for air flow. plus I still plan to do some kind of "porting" and a velocity stack inside

the cap to help with flow....

I would go all out and make a funnel from the right opening in my front end, and run a duct to the air cleaner.. But I am almost done with my 13BT and the intake is something to just get me by...

I wonder if this intake even makes a difference..??? It's not as loud as having no air cleaner, But It does sound cool though......

"wonder if this intake even makes a difference..??? It's not as loud as having no air cleaner, But It does sound cool though......"

And that is what is important! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif

the 13bt will be a nice fit into the car! I still think you could have fun creating a cheap 12a turbo system to attach to that cap!

keep us posted!

RE_TurboFB 01-29-2008 12:52 PM

Yeah I was looking to get a little more power out of the 12A.. I was thinking about welding up a header for it, But if I'm going to do that. I might as well just make a turbo manifold for it..

I have a fresh rebuilt knight sport turbocharger, But i don't know if that old ass 12A can handle any boost.. It has 110PSi of compression on the rear rotor, and 95PSI on the front.. Right now it doesnt smoke or eat water so I think I might go ahead and throw my turbo on it.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

RE_TurboFB 01-29-2008 01:12 PM

Should I run a intercooler and a blow off valve..??

Because I already have a big intercooler but I still need to get a blow off valve. I just wanna know how "cheap" of a 12A turbo setup I should go with..??????

If I run the plumbing directly from the turbo to the carb It would be real easy and I could save a lot of cash, But would the intake temps be to high...???? Even if I run low boost like 4-5 PSI??? I think a blow off valve is a must... The turbo has a fresh rebuild on it and I want to spare it from any compressor surge....

Is there anything I need to do to the stock carb to run boost down it????

Thanks!!!

If you have the intercooler and the BOV, I would run them (it would be warm otherwise). You might have to rejet the carb to get enough fuel, but other than that! I would start with the boost low around 6-8 PSI. But sounds like it is the perfect motor to experiment on!
