RE_TurboFB 01-28-2008 03:34 AM

Have you guys seen one like this..????

[attachment=43810:rx7_iNTAKE.JPG]

Or has anybody made one like this..???

Clarks7 01-28-2008 03:40 PM

Does that do any good? It doesn't look like that angle would help any airflow, and it has added a big straw... now add some force air to that and it might be a neat intake:)

RE_TurboFB 01-28-2008 06:20 PM

So i should plumb it down in front of the inner fender well...Or plumb it in front of my radiator..????

I was trying to create the whole plenum thing with the carb cap..

Clarks7 01-28-2008 06:32 PM

Well, the more you plumb, the more it needs to suck, the more it takes away from its efficiency... It looks like a good base to add a turbo to a carb... but that would require the addition of a turbo, intercooler and plumbing.

The ideal intake for a NA carb would be least restrictive (i.e. shorter intake, and if you want it to be cold air, straight up out of the hood... but don't do that unless you can hide it under a scoop).

I guess if you are going fast enough, run it in front of the radiator or make a cold air box under those vents on your hood (if they are functional).

I like the start of it, and it is cool the way you connected it to the carb... it looks like an original 12a turbo intake!

Clarks7 01-28-2008 06:48 PM

Does it sound cool? Where did you get the carb cap?

RE_TurboFB 01-29-2008 12:12 AM

I made it.. All the other intakes were petty spendy And I have scrap just laying around.

I was thinking of how a MFI car has a plenum going to runners and that doesnt seem like good angles for air flow. So I thought that the 3" pipe to the 4" plenum would be OK for air flow. plus I still plan to do some kind of "porting" and a velocity stack inside

the cap to help with flow....

I would go all out and make a funnel from the right opening in my front end, and run a duct to the air cleaner.. But I am almost done with my 13BT and the intake is something to just get me by...

I wonder if this intake even makes a difference..??? It's not as loud as having no air cleaner, But It does sound cool though......

Clarks7 01-29-2008 11:23 AM

"wonder if this intake even makes a difference..??? It's not as loud as having no air cleaner, But It does sound cool though......"

And that is what is important! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif

the 13bt will be a nice fit into the car! I still think you could have fun creating a cheap 12a turbo system to attach to that cap!

keep us posted!

RE_TurboFB 01-29-2008 12:52 PM

Yeah I was looking to get a little more power out of the 12A.. I was thinking about welding up a header for it, But if I'm going to do that. I might as well just make a turbo manifold for it..

I have a fresh rebuilt knight sport turbocharger, But i don't know if that old ass 12A can handle any boost.. It has 110PSi of compression on the rear rotor, and 95PSI on the front.. Right now it doesnt smoke or eat water so I think I might go ahead and throw my turbo on it.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

RE_TurboFB 01-29-2008 01:12 PM

Should I run a intercooler and a blow off valve..??

Because I already have a big intercooler but I still need to get a blow off valve. I just wanna know how "cheap" of a 12A turbo setup I should go with..??????

If I run the plumbing directly from the turbo to the carb It would be real easy and I could save a lot of cash, But would the intake temps be to high...???? Even if I run low boost like 4-5 PSI??? I think a blow off valve is a must... The turbo has a fresh rebuild on it and I want to spare it from any compressor surge....

Is there anything I need to do to the stock carb to run boost down it????

Thanks!!!

- Jared

Clarks7 01-29-2008 03:56 PM

If you have the intercooler and the BOV, I would run them (it would be warm otherwise). You might have to rejet the carb to get enough fuel, but other than that! I would start with the boost low around 6-8 PSI. But sounds like it is the perfect motor to experiment on!

RE_TurboFB 01-29-2008 07:58 PM

You can rejet the stock carb..!?!? WOW that is a easy fix!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.gif Do you know where I can get bigger jets..????

Thanks again!!!

Clarks7 01-29-2008 08:41 PM

I have "rejeted" the stock carb with gross jets, different style, all they do is screw in, it is easy to swap out. I am not sure who would make larger jets... British Victoria may have the gross jets (it was a long time ago when I did it). But if you can swap styles of jets you can definately swap size of jets.

Does anyone else have experience with this?

RE_TurboFB 01-31-2008 01:38 AM

Yeah... somebody here has to know what I need to do to prep a 12A for a turbo. I didnt see anything at victory british ltd.

Thanks guys. (In advance)

It might not be very hard to pull the stock ones out and modify them... but that might take some engineering skills...

RE_TurboFB 01-31-2008 09:41 PM

Like take them to a machine shop and have them "Bored out" a bit..????

They are fairly small (kin of like the top piece of a bic pen if you took it apart). I couldn't tell you angles for the new bore, it still needs to atomize the fuel.

http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=34828. here is another guy who has used them. Or just type gross jets and carb in a yahoo search. There is alot of people talking about modifying their carbs to more or less fuel.

The nice part is the Nikki carb is designed to swap out or remove those jets!

yetterben 02-07-2008 09:56 PM

sob make me one i need a carb hat for my nikki. Last part i need to complete the setup. My build thread is over on the big forum same user name as hear https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.gif

RE_TurboFB 02-09-2008 03:52 AM

What size of intake pipe would you need going to the hat..??? And what angle do you need the pipe at.???( strait, 45 down, 90 left..???) Do you need a custom carb stud or are you going to fab your own..??

yetterben 02-09-2008 04:36 PM

2.5 going in straight is fine. I have a carb stud from a my nikki raceing beat air cleaner. Think for turbo apps its suppsoed to be like 100mm tall or some ****???

Pm me or email me at yetterben at yahoo.com

RE_TurboFB 02-13-2008 05:53 PM

Allright this is how it turned out if your still interested...

[attachment=43946:carb_hat.JPG]

It's not the best work I've done but it will get boosted air down you nikki...

You would have to supply a rubber O-ring to seal it to the carb( the rubber ring off the stock air box works great, And I did not drill a hole for your carb stud since I dont know the specs for the one your using..

Thank you,

-Jared

RE_TurboFB 02-13-2008 05:56 PM

If you Want any more pictures of the hat before buying it just let me know.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR

yetterben 02-13-2008 07:38 PM

paint that bitch some color red black blue i dont care lol. a bead rolled edge would be nice so my hose dosnt slip off lol. MINE MINE thats all i have to say is mine lol.

RE_TurboFB 02-13-2008 07:47 PM

Ok I'll do some wet sanding and shoot a few coats of hight temp black on it.. I'll post another picture in about 30 min.... How do they do the rolled edge?? I made the intake pipe a bit long so you can do what you want with it..... A muffler shop might be able to throw a rolled edge on it... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif

RE_TurboFB 02-13-2008 11:08 PM

Alright here it is with a few coats of paint...

RE_TurboFB 02-14-2008 12:11 AM

yeah your build looks Nice!! Looks like that 12A is going to scream down the road!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

I would love to see pictures when it's done!!!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif
