I swapped a 12 a rotary into a bug and now need extra clearance for the oil pan. My idea is to cut off the surround ring of the pan and remake an oil pan that is one depth the whole way and also shortening it by an inch or more. I know this will retain if not add to the overall amount of oil in the pan. But my only concern is that the oil pick up tube being shortened might not be a good idea. Any words of advice are appreciated. The reason i need to do this i dont have the coin for the dry sump kit and figured this was a viable option since my wonderful oil pan now is just shy of 3 inches from the ground at ride height. .

i dont see why that wouldnt work. you may want to run a baffle plate to try and keep the oil more around the pickup
