Why did you put a cross-bar behind your control arm pickups? Are you going to hang something off of it, or looking to add support somehow?
|
Wow, I thought I had some work to do. Big thumbs up to you, looks like its going to be a killer ride.

Yeah, I never liked that they're cantilevered out there in single-shear, but I've got a thru-hole in the threads for a castle nut. If I had room to slip something else on, I might too. So what are your next plans for the car?

First impression:
Early California blue plate car (adds about $2K value to an RX-2 Coupe), clean, healthy, and all original floors with factory sound deadening, nice paint in engine compartment. A real survivor. Great find! Second impression: Nice paint in engine compartment destroyed and same blacked out (takes away about $2K from the value of an RX-2 Coupe) . . . then I started crying and couldn't keep on looking. All the best for your project. Another one that's not being restored but customized. Can't even imagine how scarce original RX-2 Coupes will be in just a few years from now . . . and how valuable . . . |

Sound like a race car, then. Cage it and drive it like hell! I've been looking for an RX-2 to ball up (that's already toasted, mind you) because they'd make fun race cars.

I would restore it but it's not in as good of shape as it looked when I got it. It the previous owner's first car and we all know how we treated our first car. There was a lot of damage, it was on it's 3rd set of front fenders and the only reason it looked as good as it did is because his dad worked for a body shop. I would say that 80% of the interior was a total loss if the body was a bit better I would of saved the car.
For my next duce I will restore it. Come on, man. These ARE just cars. If you come across a shell with no interior and lots of damage that isn't worth saving, you can either race it, or junk it. These car's simply don't have the value that justifies replacing floors, buying full interiors, etc. I'm all for saving the cherry ones, but not every car is a restoration waiting to happen, and that's just the way it is. We can at least enjoy the rough ones by making them so-what-daily-drivers or racing 'em. |

thanks how is your duce coming haven't seen much on it in a long time |
Crit,
I agree with you, believe it or not. I actually thought my RX-2 would make a cool track car (not a [vintage] race car, as it is way to expensive to get the suspension right], but since it was healthy and 100% complete, I just couldn't do it. If somebody, however, has a car that is missing lots of hard to replace and expensive parts, I guess it's better to enjoy it than to junk it. That said, the red car looked bitchin' complete to me (don't know about dash, etc.), healthy, no rust, all the hard to find stuff still on, etc. that I found it was a cryin' shame not to refurbish it. In a nutshell, it's always easier and cheaper to find an incomplete or customized car, than one that's original or at least almost 100% stock. Prices . . . the more cars are modified, the more valuable the stock ones will become. Imagine that you, in the year 2030, tell your grandchildren about that $75,000 Mazda RX-2 Coupe with the twin-dizzy that you butchered back in 2007. Twenty-five years from today, it might have been one of a handful that have survived. I have quite a few cars in my personal stable already, but I am absolutely convinced that early Japanese cars, especially those that are significant and sexy, will make a huge jump up the price ladder within the coming few years. In fact, I believe a nice RX-2 Coupe will be a $20K car in 2010. Problem is, there are not many nice ones left in the US, and restoring a pig is a lost propositon. That's why it makes so much sense to save the few unmolested survivors . . . |
