I got it home is one piece. I hauled it on a trailer.
First thing I noticed is that this truck is SMALL!! Especially after sitting in it. I am 6'1". So my knees are all the way up to the dash and the steering wheel is almost in my lap. I got sorta used to it though and it aint so bad. Next, Rust, rust and more rust. This truck has rust on just about every panel. The tailgate is a lost cause. I need new rocker panels. I think I can salvage the rest. Now, my problems so far. I tool the battery out to charge it and blew the main fuse behind the seat (the top 50amp one) I jimmy rigged a wire between the two points to get it to work for now. So where to find that fuse? Secondly, I have no lights whatsoever. Interior, brake, headlights, signals. Nothing.?? Is that a common problem that I should be aware of? I will have to figure that out amongst everything else. Other than that I love it! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif Interior is in decent shape. The seats are torn of coarse. The headiner, door panels are in good shape. The dash is cracked. None of the climate controls work. No radio. All of the plastics on the exterior are in good shape. Not missing any light covers or anything. Front bumper and valance are shot. Battery box cover is a gonner. The clutch is almost non existant and the engine will only stay running after warming for about 20 min.. Anyone have any suggestions on the lights? What about a heater core to get the air to blow in the cabin? Oh and the yellow paint rocks!!! I was thinking of going green but not now. I shoot it again in some yellow, maybe cym. |
Too Cool!
Post pics! Are NOS body panels available? Good luck with the rust, that is about the only thing I would know about your REPU. All old car/trucks have rust no matter what country they came from https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif |
congrats yeah where are the pix ??

From what I have found out so far Brian, chances of me finding some NOS parts is slim.
I will call all the mazda dealers on the east coast and at least make inquiries. Its that or get lucky and buy them used or a whole other turck. The only other option I have is fabrication. Really the only body parts I need to locate would be the tailgate and front bumper. I think i can make the rest work. I wouldnt say no to any other parts but those two definitely need to be replaced. I have to disassemble the entire truck, sand blast the frame. Then reassemble everything and fix all the little stuff along the way. I just bought a large building (they come and build it on my property) for my business so I will have a place to do all the work on the truck. I just hope I can find the parts I need when i need them. |
Congrats.. I can't help much with the lights.. I do however have the wiring diagrams in the service manual.. Maybe that would help..? I replaced all the wiring on my truck with a Painless Wiring kit.. Gotta Love the Yellow Paint..

Hopefully I gots it hooked up some by rotorfest '04. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |
The Painless wiring harnesses are nice, but they are overpriced. I did quite a bit of checking at national street rod shows and found the exact same harness sold under another name for almost half the price. It's out in the garage right now, but I'll post the name later.
Looks like a good project. I'm sure it will keep you busy for a while https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png BTW - PM me some info on this building you are getting. I'm thinking about getting maybe a 30'x30' or so garage built out back. My full time job is letting me go to a 4 day work week with Fridays off, so I may try to open up a small fabrication shop. Maybe.... |

i still like that truck https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png , i think if you took the bumper to a chrome shop they can straighten it.
i'm someday gonna paint my r100 ferrari fly yellow, i dunno if cym would work on the r100, the ferrari color is not metallic |
the manual I have is a chiltons Manual I believe.. I have it at home .. it is for the mazda trucks for 78 to 86 I think..
The painless harness was a bit pricey.. I think it was like $150 for the universal 18 circuit kit.. it has provisions for power locks and windows and all sortsa other crap.. all the wires are labeled and color coded.. |
