So, I'm getting my RX 2 project back up and running and would like to build a body stand so I can work on the bottom of the car and not have to be under it. This would be so I can paint, cut, wield and all that other fun stuff. Has anyone done this and if so do you have pics of it and what size it needs to be and what size stock? I want it to be safe so that it doesn't fall as that would not be good. I want it to mount to the bumper mount or should it be mounted to something else? Any help would be nice.

The original author of the writeup mentions a modified stand for someone else's Camaro resto. It looks like he just shortened the vertical offset of the arms, which would make sense to me. Do you just guess at where your center of mass is and try to get close by changing this offset, or are they pretty tolerant of the load being too high or low?

I have two engine stands setup for this with a first gen. They are not tall enough to rotate the car all the way around through.

I'm hoping it won't be too hard to get the center of gravity figured out. I am going to get the guys at work to cut me most of the steel and then wield it up at home, I want to be able to use it for lots of different cars so I may make a few adapters for different stuff.

maybe you could make it taller.. and strengthen it a bit.. that sounds like an easy way to get one cheap.. or maybe build a base under each stand to raise it a lil..
