Figured I'd turn to you guys as I don't have anyone local to me that has a clue about these cars. I recently purchased a 73 Rx2 sedan. Car runs absolutely great, until it gets hot, if you shut the car off, it will NOT start back up cranking with the key. If you push start it(takes like 2 feet to do) it fires right up and runs great. I replaced the ignition coils, points, plugs, etc. This is the only issue that I can find on it and it's becoming an annoyance not being able to drive the car lol. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Here's some pics of the car, it even has the original window sticker still! Had to give it a quick paint job, so I'm sure the hardcore lovers/collectors/etc will shun me for it lol.

I had a '73 sedan, many moons ago. She looks to be in pretty good shape.

How's the battery? Is the cranking speed what it should be, or is the battery half dead?

Any fuel leaking into the intake from the carb?

Strange that it won't start, but starts with a push. Maybe someone else will have an idea.

sound like fuels leaking causing it to flood

Battery/Starter are brand new, and the carb was re-kitted. It cranks great, but it's not firing on one coil, which leads me to believe it's an ignition issue. It doesn't smell like it's being flooded, and doesn't smoke when you finally get it started. And it ONLY does it after the car reaches operating temperature. If you let it sit say, overnight, or a few hours, it'll fire right up and run great for hours on end lol.

Also curious as to what this one would be worth in the condition it's in.

Sounds like you have a bad ignition switch, my Duece will crank and will not fire UNLESS I hold the key in the exact right position exerting pressure in a certain direction

Anyway to bypass this and just use the key for the wheel lock?

I am replacing the complete harness with a CAN-BUS system from ISISpower.com. There are other ways to attack the problem.

Disconnect the plug for the key and splice in the appropriate switches to turn on the ignition; accessory and a pushbutton for the starter

Also, how would this be a cause when it's hot? The switch doesn't see any heat correct? and it's not ran off a temperature switch or anything of that nature.

Do you get voltage to the coils when it wont start?

One coil gets ground/power, the other gets power on both sides. I don't know voltage. I can check it tomorrow.
