Simple question. I always thought that the 13B was FI. Is the 13B on the REPU FI or carbureted? I see carburetors so I assume that it is not fuel injected. Second, is it a preference to leave it carbureted? I am buying a REPU and I am at the beginning of the learning curve.

Yeah.. Repus had a carb system.. and I beleive it was a four barrel Nikki carb.. and the stock engine is of four port configuration..

Right on the money on both answers.Yes they were a 4 port as opposed to the newer 6 port design and the did come with a 4 barrel carb but its not as good as the newer 4 barrel nikki found on the 82-85 Rx7's 12a engine.

I think it had a Hitachi carb. I have one of those old school carbs that's water damaged. My REPU has a newer looking carb; possibly a Nikki. My Cosmo has a regular old Hitachi on it. The Nikki look-alike carb seems to work better on my ill-in REPU engine. The top has those fuel feed tubes like an RX-7 Nikki. The Cosmo carb has a cast aluminum top feed system which probably doesn't flow as well as the later design.

If you can get a hold of a newer 4 barrel carb is that an easy install?

Sort of. The 12A carbs have a smaller stud spacing. They can be mounted on the 13B manifolds, but four new holes need to be drilled and tapped. It appears the four runners are spaced the same. Infact, I have a 13B manifold where someone attempted to restud it. The studs aren't spaced 100% perfect, but close enough (98%?) to get a 12A spacer and carb on it. And I ain't selling it! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/tongue.png
