https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/angry.png I am very extremely extremely unhappy with the work I had done at Rick's Rotary Performance in Pleasanton, California. My original estimate to have an engine rebuild was $5,000 and would take about 2-3 wks. Well he took more like 2-3 months and it cost me $11,000 to bring my car home because he was putting aftermarket parts in my car (clutch, tranny, pipes, even the turbos!!!) because he later said that he found that they needed replacing. But I specifically told him that all I wanted from him was a rebuild for the time being and that I was going to buy all the aftermarket stuff somewhere else and install it on my own because he charges way way too much for his stuff. He charged my $580 for my clutch, $600 for tranny rebuild, and $3500 (wtf!!!!!) for the 99 jdm turbos!!!!!

I let him slide on that one, thinking he probably had a good reason for doing what he did, and that he was just trying to help me out. After all, he did put a warranty on his work. But I started noticing things about him...how he's totally rude (especially to asian people)and there are wierd things about the way he prices things...like he will give me a quote over the phone..and then when I bring my car in, he'll tell me that he made a mistake and gave me the wrong price. And whenever I bring my car in, regarless of what I'm getting done that day, he always changes my oil and filter and charges me for it. And I also noticed on my receipts, that sometimes he will charge me for 4 quarts @ $2.50 a quart. And sometimes he will charge me 5 quarts at $2.00 a quart?!?!?! Fucken wierd...

They are supposed to get a release from you. In other words you sign to let them install what is needed. Otherwise, they are supposed to have at least a verbal acceptance from you whenever there is additonal parts and labor not in the orifinal estimate.

The pricing looks normal even for the oil, since both changes add to $10. Sounds like he wants a set price whether it's an R1 or not but then he should state a flat fee. As far as the pricing, sounds like he quotes by memmory when he should be looking at a price list.

Are you satisfied with his work? What kind of warranty did you receive? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...R#>/unsure.png

Rick's rotary, any input about this?

i would hope that you have informed Ricks rotary about your complaint before blasting them.

If so what was their response?

he put a one year limited warranty on my car..the warranty doesn't cover any damage due to over-revving, over-boosting, over-heating etc etc

and about the aftermarket stuff....

if he found out that some of my stock stuff needed replacing, then he should have replaced it with new stock stuff...because all I said was that I just wanted the car running, and that I will soup it up later, because I can get aftermarket things for cheap, and I know how to install it myself. He even charged me for the installation for the things he threw in there...I would imagine that the installation of those things would be part of his $1800 remove/installation fee of the motor.
