I have a chance to buy a clean 91 Rx7 turbo.. The car needs seals, it will start but not stay running long.. Seems low on compression. is this a hard fix for a do- it you self mechanic.

I know the seals and gaskets etc are around 800.00 I'm told.. I want to road race, so are there any seals that are more durable..

Please offer advice.

You're probably better off picking up a rebuilt engine. Generally when a turbo "needs seals" it means a broken apex seal, which usually takes out at least one rotor and housing, usually the end and center plates.

Ask me in a few months how hard the rebuild is, since I've finally got the engine out, and hope to have it stripped to short-block / start disassembly this weekend. Only reason I'm considering doing the rebuild is because I have a bad coolant seal, but all apex seals are still in good shape. There's a chance I can rebuild this one with just a seal kit and irons lapping.
