sorry the jic flt A2 i mean

jspecracer7 10-16-2002 04:18 AM

I have the HKS hiper D Dragger coil overs. Chris has RSR's. FDOkinawa had the Tein's...he said they were crap, and from helping him adjust the height on them, he's right.

Go with the JIC's https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

amp 10-16-2002 07:12 AM

jspec...

as far as the TEINs...fdokinawa and your evaluation of crap, was adjustment the only issue you fellas found... ?

amp 10-16-2002 07:19 AM

hopefully there are options outside of lavender for the springs...

height adjustment took an AIR CHISEL to get to go up or down. We actually took it off of the car and it STILL wouldn't budge, even with some serious Rutt torque(and Rutt's a BIG DUDE)

He said that they are good coilovers, BUT the fact that the coilover adjustment locks onto itself after time makes it suck goat balls thru a straw... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/dunno.gif

What about lower versions of the JIC's?

yayer 10-22-2002 02:45 PM

amp 10-22-2002 03:00 PM

jason of jtimports can most likely anser these questions...

The lowest Tein shock that can be compared to the JIC FLT A2's is the Tein RE which outclass the FLT A2's. Tein RA's and below do not have adjustable preload while the FLT A2 does. What is preload and how is it adjusted? Preload is the amount of pressure applied to the spring before the forces of the vehicles weight compress the spring and it is adjusted by compressing/uncompressing the spring. Shocks that have adjustable preload allow for height adjustments without affecting the preoad on the spring. Shocks that do not have a preload adjustment compress the spring as the vehicle height is lowered. This puts unnecessary strain on the shock which leads to short oil/piston/valve life or more rebuilds in simple english! I use Zeal S6 with 20kg/16kg springs! I have experience with Zeal, Apex, Tein, Ohlins and a couple other shocks!

The bottom lock collar is used to make height adjustments while the lock collars below the spring are used to make preload adjustments! I know some of you guys hate Honda's but here's a suspension thread from Honda-tech! I'm Dee on that board!

Aragostas are worth the money. They're commonly available in single adjustable and can be had in double adjustable version as well for about 335-350,000 Yen. Not cheap, about the same price as Ohlins SPL, but worth the money. The hard core roadrace guys in Japan love them. If I have the company's history correct, they're a Danish company with engineers from Ohlins. OEM quality in terms of long term usage and they bolt right in. 45mm pistons too.

I have the Tein HA's. I believe they've upgraded the materials used for the threads on the shock body (for height adjustment). I've had no issues with turning the collars as of yet. I've had them for about 9 months. For the money, the HA's can't be beat. You can usually find them for about $950 shipped to your door. I don't use their upper mounts, just stock.

Do you have any camber problems using the stock upper mounts? I currently have the Tein HA's but I wanted to save up a little money to get the upper mounts but it seems like theyre not necessary. Also does the ride have a noticeable difference using the upper mounts or will I just be wasting money buying the upper mounts? I know, alot of questions, thanks.

amp.....I think that's a picture of my JIC strug you posted up there. Hehe...that's funny jus readin through a post and seeing you're own part up there. Anyways...I am in love with the JIC FLT-A2. It completely changed the handlling characteristics of my car. And I didn't even go from stock. I switched from a tokico 5-way adjustable w/ racing beat springs to the JIC FLT-A2. It was like chocolate and ****. There was no comparison between the two. If you are really serious about how your car handles, then a true coilover system is a must. I'm sure the other coilover systems are good, but I have no experience with them. The JIC however, I took out on a road course last weekend and became even more impressed with this suspension after pushin it to the limit. I watched some videos of the laps afterwards, my car apperas to have no body roll what so ever, when I go to turn, the car just turns. ALl the other cars were leaning over to the side, getting a wheel off the ground sometimes. That might look cool, but with that much body roll, you're not going anywhere. I"d say go w/ the JIC

ill catch up with ya if i decide to go with teins...

works2r 12-11-2002 01:00 AM

jio -

if you're going to buy coil-overs, i'd suggest looking at 4 options:

Aragostas (S/A, D/A)

JRZ (3Way, 2Way)

Penske (3Way, 2Way)

Ohlins (3Way, 2Way)

trust me, you'll thank me later.

out of those, only jrz and penske are rebuildable locally

if you buy ohlins, you will buying them out of US.

Ohlins USA will not service them... PITA

hit me up on AIM

penske is right in PA https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

r_xplicit 12-23-2002 05:04 PM

yeah, but the $$ of the penske will render you useless after the PROPER ROGERING you will get from the bill....

i am looking into these 2 (tein/jic) suspensions right now. i have alotted my power fc $ for the coilovers right now because the shitty tokico illumina's are taking a dump....all the way around.....

so, i guess that the general consensus of this issue is that they are both good choices? right? i think that i can get a better $ on the tein's, but i am very interested in the jic flt-a2's...any more info would be greatly appreciated.....

louis

and the money that you will waste once you realize that what you bought wasnt enough for what you needed..

ive been through it! third suspension set, going on fourth, and I'm wishing hard that I had bought either the JRZ or Penske to begin with. Rebuilds are cheap, but having shock failure sucks when you're in the middle of a race and your car no longer responds like its supposed to, and you end up over the chicane, and into the dirt, and your car is *really* f'd up because it couldn't stay on the road..

All I'm saying is.. if you are really going to road race, buy the suspension that you will only have to change once.. no need to buy single adjustables and then having to deal with not being able to adjust what you want once you realize you need to.

Cheers! 12-31-2002 08:10 PM

since so many coilover systems are getting named... i would like to know how the other japanese coilovers rate?

-cusco

-HKS hyper damper II (it has frigging 30 settings) which are 10x the amount i need. alli need is normal driving, spirated dirivng, autox/track day settings

-Apexi

apexkw 03-27-2003 12:05 PM

the only real reason i see to get the upper mounts is if your stock ones are bad.

i got the ha's had em for like 4 months, only drove the car like for a month. then i switched to the re's.

they just left me wanting more. i would love to compare my re's to jic's but alas i dont

know of anybody in my area who has them.
