Differences between single piston a 4 piston brakes? What is the advantages and disadvantages of them? I have a single piston brake setup going on in my 88 SE.



And rotors. Cross drilled, and the flat surfaced rotors. I am new at this stuff. Am I better off just going with OEM rotors. I want to go to a 5 lug conversion soon. What am I looking at for cost and time taken to do it. I can get a hookup on some stock FD rims if I do a 5 lug conversion, and you can find more rims with the 5 lug patterns from what I have seen. I read that I would need spacers though for the FD rims? I know that the rotors for front to back is gonna be close or over 400 bucks, and new rear pads are going to be about 50 bones. But this is stopping power that can help save my life.

what are you future plans for this car? Autocross? Drag? Dailydriver? i dont think you need 4 piston calipers. y do you want 5 lug seems like kind of a waste of money when you could probably get some nice 4 lug rims for the same price. just my opinion.

It will be a daily driver, but be taken to the drag strip every now and then for shits and giggles. And be autocrossed later on when I complete all the suspension work.

Just wanting to know the differences between single and 4 piston brakes besides the sizes of the brakes.

More pistons = more clamping power. I have heard this can help prevent brake fade, not sure though. If single piston calipers can lock up the tires, going to 4 piston wont make you stop any faster. The limiting factor is in the tires there.

If your going to change rotors and want the performance just go with slotted ones. Drilled rotors will crack with street use and the slotted rotors give the brake cooling needed just as well for usage.



If you want he FD rims, yes you will need spacers. I cant remember the website but they make a spacer that converts to 5 lug for you.



With a 4 piston caliper you wil have a huge difference in stopping power. with the 4 piston you get the benifit of better stopping power and lighter calipers. There is 6 piston calipers also, but it has been proven that the 4 do just as good as a job with lighter weight. Thats why many race bike manufactures tried the 6 for a few years but went back to 4 after.
