is there a way of getting them off the rotors, unfortunately i spent all my money and have no money for the zinc coated group buy.

so any suggestions?

Travisty 10-14-2003 11:14 PM

go brake real hard a couple times.

FikseRxSeven 10-14-2003 11:20 PM

i dont have rust on where the pad touches the rotor, im talkin more about the center part where the rotor meets the wheel and the 2-3 inch area around it

teknics 10-14-2003 11:20 PM

lol yea, drive your car a bit, you dont even need to brake hard since pads are always in contact with the rotors just driving will wear off the first layer, a couple long stops will get that **** off right away.

braking hard will only clean some areas and other areas will stay as rusted as before.

take off wheels, get intake/throttle cleaner (in my experience it seems stronger then brakekleen), spray on, get small wire brush (size of toothbrush), and start brushing. polish them like your rims if you must.

other then that, nope no way i know of.

thanks kevin

dont do that on the rotor surface itself, thats just for the part that the wheels mounts to. on the rotor itself i have no idea what to do.

i guess its not safe to use sandpaper?

vosko 10-15-2003 12:41 AM

buy new cadmium plated rotors

FikseRxSeven 10-15-2003 12:42 AM

BBQ spray paint works GREAT!!!! no BS! Try not to get too much in the pads path

pengaru 10-15-2003 03:13 AM

after you get all the rust off the hat part you could paint it black or something, just use the high temp engine paint. It will help prevent future rust from forming there.

the rotors I bought for my FC (OEM rotors) came painted silver, and i just drove around the block with the old pads installed. After a few brakes the paint was gone on the wear surface but remained everywhere else. Now the new pads are on and the rotor isnt going to rust for a long ass time anywhere that isnt scraped by the pads.

you can do the same thing on used rotors if you get the rust off.

I used to paint min silver before I got cad-plated ones. My advice is to clean 'em real good with a/an anti-rust cleaner, like carb cleaner, then hit 'em hard with paint. you can use sandpaper if you'd like, I see no real problem with that method.

Just dont use like a brass brush to clean them...

you got a FD, go for the bling bling and buy some powerslot rotors

that wont rust.
