I have read several articles in newsgroup posts and elsewhere that say it is unsafe to change rotors and brake pads at the same time.

Is this true?

Dont cars come from the factory with new pads and new rotors.

If anyone has any personal experience or knowledge on this, please enlighten me.

Thanks

I have never heard that.

bah! that's ridiculous, just make sure you don't glaze them up right away...

I got new rotors from Precision Brakes as part of the RZ rotor/caliper GB and in their break-in procedure, they suggested the same thing. They said to use broken in pads to break in the rotors. It makes sense to me.

My concern is that my current pads are old and worn and I dont want to mess up new rotors with spanked pads.

I have a brand new set of Hawk pads (I think they may even be hi-pro/race type pads) that I want to use.

I dont know if that makes a difference or not, but thought I would throw it out there.

I've got 3 vehicles on the road right now that got new pads, rotors and one calipers all at the same time. Use some steel wool on the rotor if you are worried about it... that was a joke btw

You have never led me astray before. I am going for it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif

Thanks again!

You do however want to make sure the rotors are cleaned off good, the PowerSlots I put on my Dad's truck (like the ones in the store) had the usual packing oil on them, use some brake cleaner to get it off.

The ones I put on the Jeep did not, but I still cleaned them up good.

Right on. Thanks for the tip. My new rotors do appear to have some sort of oil or something on them.

new pads and new rotors are a perfect match!!!. Yes Like phins said use some brake clean on the new rotors, the coating on there is so the rotors don't rust sitting on the store shelf.

Also once you have everything together, try and do about 15-20 stops from around 30mph to properly break in the pads.
