hey guys, i am looking into coilovers for my FD, ill mostly be using them for canyon roads, and the occasional drag. Also this wont be my daily driver, so if they are violently stiff, great ! So far ive narrowed it down to Knightsports, Cusco, and JICs. ive ridden in JIC's in a FC and was impressed, but theres always that doubt...anyways give me some feedback on the coilovers thing, thanks!

j9fd3s 08-21-2003 11:29 AM

how did you narrow it down to those?

mike

FrestyleFC3S 08-21-2003 01:50 PM

prolly word o mouth...theyre all good though - its tough depending on what you really want from a coilover

look at the options and adjustability and the spring rates

GoRacer 08-21-2003 08:03 PM

HKS if you want to do drag.

JIC are good bang for the buck but you will need to add a spacer in between the pillow ball and bump stop to prevent it from denting the hood.

Custcos are nice but I doubt you will get a good price on them.

I have JIC SF1's and personally if I were to buy over I would get Buddy Club's or HKS HD2's for $1500

Personally I dont like Tein, Tanabe, Cusco or JIC, but thats just me.

I have driven on them all. Apexi are nice, HKS new style is nice, old style is a lot like the above, when you tune them hard they get bouncy NOT stiff. I havent rode on BUDDYCLUB, but I have a set in stock going on the FD hehe

Knightsports---Never really saw anyone use them. Nor have I heard any reviews on them. Doesnt mean they are bad, probably just pricey and not a big name.

vosko 08-23-2003 12:20 PM

Efinity 08-23-2003 01:52 PM

ok now im looking at the buddy clubs, jics, apex and cuscos.....AHH this is driving me crazy, more feedback pls....

JT-Imports 08-24-2003 04:47 AM

Buddy clubs are inverted yes.

vosko 08-24-2003 09:47 AM

they look like it man those are nice..... i need to stop spending money lol

Efinity 08-24-2003 11:48 AM

anyone heard of penskes?

GoRacer 08-24-2003 04:54 PM

Those will run you over double in price. There's only one guy (on other forum) that has those that I know of. The buddy club's have the adjustment for the front underneath and for the rear above for easy access. I beleive HKS has both underneath and JIC both above which dents the hood without the bubmp stop spacer. If you really like drag and/or drifting HKS has drag shocks. They also have a softer luxary series you can see them on rotaryextreme's website. If you would rather spend under $1k i'd get bilstein's and HKS white springs but that would be more luxury then race, which I would prefer. I sugest you ride in a car with race coil overs and see how freekin stiff it is. I only have 10/8's and girls don't like it. I can't imagine 12/10 or 14/12's. You would need a kidney belt!

Knightsports are Aragostas with valving per their specs for the FD. Can get them double adjustable (separate compression/rebound) for 355,000 Yen or so. 50mm valve, aluminum body, seperate height and spring perch adjustment. The Aragostas consistently get the highest ratings in RX7 Magazine and are LOVED by the track enthusiasts in Japan. There is now an Aragosta distributor in N. America which will help if rebuild is needed. They're on the level of Ohlins, just below a custom-built Penske.

SageFC 08-29-2003 01:45 PM

Don't forget Endless/Zeal, they make some incredible coilovers also. I drove their FD over here and it's extremely comfortable. I did like it's response and ride quality better than the JIC's. This to me was very surprising.

Rishie

Arogasta is dope. Mike, you happen to know who the distributor is??

rx7tt95 08-29-2003 05:58 PM

I'll find them for you Rishie...can't remember off the top of my head. I know they're looking for distributors in the US at the moment too. I believe the "big" distributor is based out of Canada.

http://www.aragosta-suspension.com/

That's their main website. I know I have the N.America site somewhere...I'll find it.

Michel

JT-Imports 08-29-2003 10:23 PM

Yeah Aragostas are pretty cool. They are VERY VERY VERY popular on Silvias, but NOT really big on the FD, but I see a fair share of them on the FD, and yes they get mad good reviews.

Ohlins name dropped down on respect for some reason lately over here. So I dont know where they stand.

DRFT 08-30-2003 09:31 AM

Well what are you planning to do with your FD???

Do you plan on drag racing?

Auto crossing?

Tracking?

Daily Driving?

We are looking for distributors.

If you are interested, please contact us!

Rishie, there's the contact info for the NA distributor. I'm sure they'll have someone in the US soon although a Canada base may give us REALLY good pricing.

DomLee 09-03-2003 02:48 PM

Hey Rishie,....didn't realize you were on this forum too.

Yeah,...that is Aragosta's NA distributor. As Michel said,...it would be good to take advantage of the fact that they are in Canada (thus better pricing).

SageFC 09-09-2003 04:05 AM

Thanks so much Mike. You da man. I will give them a ring and see what we can setup. Good timing for our new facility too.

Dom I'm new here. Recently introduced. I kinda just check for places I can help people with fitments and then duck out to get back to the grindstone. So i never really searched for other boards. Just kinda heard about them. I stick to one place. So this will be my home from now on.

Mike once again. THanks so much.

Rishie
